I was just looking on ebay at some scion H/U and saw this one for cheap. does it look like a winner? is this the model where you can change the greeting? and are these a good H/U's if i eventually hook a sub up to it? thanks!

That's a decent HU. It is one of the models that you can change the greeting on. $50 isn't too bad, but it is actually $66 shipped, which, IMHO is a bit on the high side.
I got my T1807 (same model as this one) for only $34 shipped in nearly brand new condition. I think you could get one cheaper if you kept looking for awhile. Don't be rushed to purchase; there are a ton of these for sale. If you're patient, you should be able to get one for about what I did.
For tons of info on the T1807, search this forum with that #. My T1807 install thread is stickied in this section.
As far as adding a sub - you would have to use the rear speakers for the sub input, as this (and most all Scion HU's) DO NOT have line-level outputs. The most recent Scion HU's have started adding line-level outputs, but they're expensive HU's.

im kinda new at the audio modding, so what your saying is that i cant directly run a sub to the cd player? i realize that, but aren't there adapters you can buy to hook it up? in my chevy i kept the stock cd player and just used an adapter for the subs so why is this any different?

You misunderstand me - you can run a subwoofer with just about ANY stereo, it just depends how you hook it up.
The factory HU and most Scion HU's do not have the RCA line-level (low-power) outputs on the back of the stereo, which is the easy way to hook up an external amplifier.
In order to hook up a sub on a stereo that doesn't have the line-level outputs, you have to tap the wires going to a speaker (high-power) for the signal to the sub's input (or more correctly, the sub's amplifier input).
This can be done directly at or near the speaker, or with an aftermarket wiring harness which provides you connectors (but does it in the same way). Some amps have a "through" connection where the speaker wires go directly to the amp for the sub, then pass to the speaker you're using for the input. Some amplify this signal, others don't; depends on the amp.
Sounds like your Chevy did it the latter way because it didn't have line-level outputs either (most factory HU's don't).
