Is this a good price for Bilstein 5100 installation?

I have been given a price quote of $600-$700 for the following Bilstein shocks, installation and wheel alignment:

Front height adjustable 5100: F4-BE5-C475-H0

Rear 5100: F4-BE5-E703-H0

First of all, are those the correct part numbers for 2011 SR5 4x4? Is the price good?

seems high to me. not that they are necessarily overcharging you, but just a lot of money for something that's not too difficult. if you have just a little bit of mechanical knowledge you can do the majority of this yourself, and just pay for the alignment and possibly having the new shocks set in your springs. but, if you have money to burn, and no time to spare, i guess it isn't that bad. i think the front should take at most 1.5 hours per side, and the rear maybe 1.5 hours total. so 4.5-5 hours. lets say $85/hour times 5 hours is $425, plus a hundred dollar alignment gets you to $525. still a lot to remove/replace shocks. i'd save my money for other mods and do this myself.

FWIW I just put top plate spacers in (relatively similar amount of work) with the help of a friend in about 2.5 hours. Most of that time was trying to get the KDSS sway bar back onto the lower control arm, once you figure out what to do it's not so bad.

It was pretty easy, of course we had a lift and air tools. But the truck is new, so all the bolts just come right apart!

I can't tell from your post, does the $600-700 include the cost of the shocks as well as installation. If yes, that's not bad. The shocks are about $400 so $200-300 for the install and alignment would be reasonable. If no, then the price is too high for just installation and alignment.

I'm having 5100s installed as we speak. Using my local toyota dealer mainly because I have a good relationship with the service manager and trust them but they aren't cheap. I bought shocks from toytec for $399 front and rear and I'm paying the dealer another $394 for installation--I saw other posts where guys were getting installation done for $250 - $300.

The price includes the shocks, installation and alignment. I thought the price was not bad. This quote is from a local "offroad" accessory store.

I got a quote of $850 (includes shocks, installation & alignment) from a "regular" reputable vehicle repair shop.

I paid $150 out the door to install and do an alignment for my front Bilstein 5100's here in San Diego. The rear should be even less $$$ than the front, so yeah... that price seems ridiculous to me.

Edit... Should have read that the price included parts as well :redbrick:. Looks like a good deal then, so go for it!

I think I paid like $190 to get my toytec ultimate lift put on and that also included alignment and level.

Hmmm....interesting question about the right part number. I have a set of front adjustable 5100s, the part number for those ends in H1 (same beginning part number), which is the part number that Toytec told me would work with the 2010. I have a TE so I don't know if there is a difference or not between the SR5. Is that part number you posted for the fronts? or rear? or is that a full kit number? I called Bilstein before buying and they would not confirm the part number because at the time they did not officially show a part for the 5th gen. That was a few months ago, so you might want to double check.

I never had my shocks installed so I can't tell you if they fit, I changed my mind and decided that I will go with the OW HD kit.

Right part number and there happens to be 2 part numbers causing confusion, but do a search and you'll find that thread somewhere...

Just different number for some sold through another company, buy same exact shocks.

It seems a bit high, I too paid only $190 to have a Toytec Ultimate kit installed and aligned. I provided the Toytec Ultimate kit. It took the mechanic 3.4 hours for the install. He was very careful and meticulous.

Shop the function of the installation, I'm certain you can obtain a more reasonable offer.

Thanks for all the feedback.....I am also thinking of changing the tires and wheels....any trade in value for the OEM wheels and tires (i have 4K miles on them)?

I called three shops in southern Connecticut and they all quoted about the same. 3-4 hours for the front and the same for the rear plus alignment costs. I'm pretty sure I can do it in the garage in less time and just save the 8 hours labor.

Maybe, but with what these things cost (~400) and an alignment (~75), that means he was paying around $200, which is reasonable. If I got a quote for 8 hours, I'll be thinking along the same lines as you... especially when you know you will be out of there in 3. :frisky:

Bump for old thread revival:

I installed Bilstein 5100 rears myself on my 2006 4runner limited v6 4x4. I haven't purchased the fronts yet, but went to a local shop with great reviews and was quoted ~300 (3 hours labor) to install the fronts.

Does this seem like a reasonable price? The alignment would be extra 80 on top of the installation.

The shop also recommended me purchasing the following parts just in case (but I think they will say that it was necessary to use the new parts and just charge extra for the installation of them)

1 x front shock absorber cushion retainer
1 x front shock absorber cushion No. 1
1 x top nut
1 x front suspension support sub-assembly LH and RH (the top hats)

Does it seem necessary to replace all of those parts as well? All I'm trying to do is level out the truck a bit in the front and improve the ride, but don't really want to spend an arm and a leg. Not lifting or off roading.

I've read the post about doing this installation myself but I wanted to re-use the factory springs to keep the nice soft ride as my travels are 95% highway and 5% dirt.

Any recommendations on changing the springs while they are in there as well? I'm open to suggestions. I was reading about the OME 885 coils with the Bilstein 5100 but wasn't sure on how they would affect the softness of the ride.

Its not too bad, I had the same installation a few months ago except with rear springs for $560, and it included alignment. I think it just depends on the area.
