Is this a stock battery?

Hey all,
Over the past few days, my battery has not been reliable - it has failed to start the car a few times and resulted in me having to charge it up. I made a preliminary check for parasitic drains or partial short that wouldn't blow a fuse and didn't see anything. So I thought it may just be an old battery.
Is the battery in this pic a stock one (stock in my 2000 4runner)? If so, I'm amazed because that would mean it has almost 11 years and 150k miles!
I tried adding some water, but I doubt that will help. I'm thinking of getting a new Diehard Platinum - any thoughts?

Yea thats definitely a Toyota one, but who knows if they had it serviced at the dealership and they put in a Toyota battery. Its definitely old! I think the original one in mine lasted till 4 years ago when the starter caught fire and blew the battery.
 
No, stock batteries were Panasonics and those were never sold separately in the States. Great batteries. I got 7.5 years on mine. Yours is a dealer replacement, made and sold in the US, reportedly they are pretty good but I don't know any more. A little Googling reveals that Truestart batteries are made by Johnson Controls (makers of Diehards, Duralast, Energizer, Everstart, Motorcraft, and Pep Boys Prostart, among
others).

The install date should be registered on the tag--they cut off the little ball for the year and month but I can't read the numbers in your picture.

I'm no expert, but I highly doubt it that the battery is the stock battery that came with the car brand new in 1999. I've never heard of a battery lasting that long. Although it is a toyota battery, it could've been bought 4 or 5 years after the release date of your vehicle. They usually start to weaken in 4-5 years of usuage, some longer some shorter, but 4-5 years is the average.

If you are talking about mine, you are flat wrong. I am the original owner and I keep perfect maintenance records, and I know when I have put a new battery in a car.(It was replaced on July 27, 2006 with 82,145 miles. Car was built 3/99 and purchased May 17, 1999). Search Panasonic on this forum and YT and you will find lots of people with 7-9 years on those things. I don't remember any lasting more than that, though. It helps that I never allowed the battery to go to deep discharge. Noobs....

You are some of the few that keep good maintenance of your vehicle, don't get me wrong, but my point is that for the average person and average vehicle battery, 4-5 years is the average life-span of the battery. You put on 82,000 miles in 7 years which equals to about 11,700 miles per year, you are not the average driver. Like I said I'm no expert, just personal experience.

Point is guy needs a new battery, lol, get a deep cycle with above 850 cca's preferably 1000 , i run deep cycles in all of my cars most auto batteries are starting batteries so why buy a starting battery with lower cca's the a deep cycle.

What do you guys think about that?
 
That's a dealer replacement battery.

I worked at a toyota dealer for years recently, that's the brand they put in as a replacement if you get a battery from the dealer. I've already replaced mine. I don't remember how long it lasted, its not meant for forever. I now have one from Costco. I think it was $38 or $48. Just don't let them run dry (none are really "maintenance free").

We are talking about tineman06's battery, not your battery, or another PANASONIC BATTERY. YOUR POINT IS NOT RELEVANT. Don't highjack this person's thread, if you want to talk about panasonic batteries then start your own thread.

Chill man he is right SOME last that long and most dont. Your both right and he wasn't calling you a noob. He was talking about idiots who run their battery dead. I don't think he was trying to fight we're all cool here man. Heated debates are part of the fun just try and not to take things personaly , we don't put up with personal attacks here so don't be so in guard. . I'm typing this in a friendly sort of manner. Well, first off I was being attacked by this guy, I know he wasn't calling me a noob, I called him a noob for saying that my point was not relevant. Not attacking you personally either, just clariflying my point...I'm typing this in the utmost friendly sort of manner.
 
Lol ok whatever man no matter how i read it i don't see him fighting with you personally. In the clinical sense he is correct on everything as it turns out. Just relax and read things as a progressive tech memo, arguing on the internet never did anyone any good. So seriously chill out there's no real argument here. This is my last post on the matter

In a clinical sense he is correct, in a factorial sense I am correct on everything as it turns out also. That is the REAL ARGUMENT here. We were debating as you stated, remember, not arguing. It's part of the fun. Take it as you see fit, but if you reply back, then don't you think that you're the person taking it too personal....ya think?

You said you 'highly doubted' my true statement. I provide lots of good information on this forum and have done so for years. If this got personal, it started there. I would suggest you be more careful with your phrasing in the future.

A one sentence statement about the Panasonics is not a 'hijack', it is an aside. It only became more when you incorrectly challenged my truthfulness.

Back on point, now that Optima's have lost credibility following their move of production to Mexico, I agree the Odyssey/DieHard Platinum's are probably the best performing battery out there.

Dude, you totally misunderstood, I did not "highly doubted" your true statement. We both replied at the same time, yours was just 2 mins ahead of mine. Your quote was not on there when I hit the reply button, only after I had finished typing and after I hit the submit reply button. If I doubted your true statement, I would've QUOTED you.
