Saw this on FB.. Sounds pretty serious. I think I've ran that trail and I don't remember it being more than a dirt road, but snow changes everything.

If you are doing end overs.... airbag is not going to help much. If it really did do that.. impressive how well the structure held.

In all seriousness (and to refrain from derailing this thread) I'm glad to read everyone survived. It does appear the vehicle withstood the rollovers very well considering.

At least I have the stupid momentary button to turn off the roll sensing airbags for offroad use :gossip:

I bet most people here don't even know about the old school RSCA button. Had concerns it wold pop off early on.. but after having the truck at crazy angles many times I stopped worrying about it as it was nearly impossible to remember to activate that button on every startup in technical terrain. I still wonder if they just came to the conclusion it was unnecessary or actually updated the mechanism.

Yes, we are tracking this in numerous groups here in Colorado. Truck will have to be removed at some point - not sure which group will get the call (if it hasn't happened already)

I have stayed away from the other airbag thread but in any case where they deploy it is for AN impact. On every accident scene that I have been to (yes, FD) the patient gets beat up regardless, but in my experience never more than they would have without it. By the time the 4R in the OP stopped moving I am sure the bags would have deflated already but I am looking at 0 fatal and all alive, tossed out or not, as a testament to the safety package as a whole. Pretty sure Toyota did not toss one off a cliff to test it out during R&D but the result is pretty F'n impressive in my opinion. I can't wait to get me and my children snuggled up inside ours when it gets off the boat.

Hope occupants have a quick recovery, and also hope they are willing to tell their tale for the rest of us someday.

Pre-2014 had a RSCA off button to turn off the rollover sensing that triggers side airbags. I turn mine off out of shear habit now when I'm wheeling. It is gone on 2014 and after rigs. Perhaps they linked it to low range 4wd but I have no idea.

Yeah, apparently people get annoyed by the seatbelts when getting in/out of the vehicle on obstacles and just say "**** it". I personally cringe a little when I see that, it's a pain sometimes trying to get back in the 4th gen when she's on an angle and the seatbelt's locking up. But I'd rather have it than not.

Is it an actual cut-off? I recall that at least in the 4th gens it just tells the SRS Sensor Assembly to increase it's allowance for tilt detection. I could be wrong though, they change terminology and function sometimes without clear delineation (TRAC/ATRAC being an example).
