Prices vary a lot depending on region. It seems that California/PNW ones go for higher prices compared to the rest of the US.
 
EDIT: I take it back. Seller notes "minor rust" but there is an actual hole in the rocker panels... yikes.

True.. I was just left scratching my head when I saw this ad last night.. I almost want to text him and ask him if he'll let me know what he ends up getting.. I'm in the same region.

Good idea.

And just elaborating on the time vs money thing: I know a guy who a few years ago bought a brand new Wrangler Rubicon off the lot, and drove straight to 4WP to spend the equivalent of another new Rubicon in modifications, who then proceeded to beat it hard on the trails in the Southwest. Awesome rig. But that's a lotta coin.

So to someone like that, a rig like the one in this ad is cheap. Just a beater rig that they can smash on the rocks for a couple seasons? IDK just speculating.
 
I'm gonna guess he's on Fentanyl and doesn't even know it's mixed in his usual drugs, but the market IS crazy and he's probably aiming high. That DIY MOVE bumper kit with the big ass front receiver added is something to behold....I would treat any other mods done with suspicion.
 
I didn't even look at the link, but will say this... I listed my 2000 SR5 4x4 (bone stock with newer radio) with 211K miles on Facebook Marketplace last week for $8500. I had 5 people within minutes ready to come get it and pay full ask no BS. Before I was able to schedule anyone, some guy offered $10K to get to front of the line and come get it. I'm in North Carolina.

The market is crazy right now.
 
The market is extremely hot for used vehicles now and the pricing has really gone up. :)

This. Older Japanese cars and trucks are a hot commodity right now. If you think 18k is a lot, this just easily sold for 40k.

That low mileage is a true unicorn, there might be a handful on the planet with so few miles. The people buying these are likely not modding them up or off roading with them. I saw a 96 (I think) Land Cruiser sold last year for 140k, with I believe 4k miles.

Damn that's nuts. I don't really want to get rid of my runner but if he gets even close to asking that's really tempting..

Isn't that the truth. Unless one is a high-earner in the increasingly pinched middle class, it would be a one way street. If I sold mine right now I'd only have sedans or minivans to look forward to in the future.

Very true. Probably smarter to stick to my original plan of keeping it for my daughters first car.
 
Even in this market nearly 15k should mean no rust holes in the rockers, and the seller can’t even be bothered to spend the $40 or so to put a new o2 sensor in it that’s supposedly causing the check engine light
 
if someone is looking you have to jump fast if the right one comes up but prices are going nuts and you better know what to look for as far as problems with these 3rd gens. my current i called as soon as it showed up on facebook and was first one to see it with cash in hand....and he even said he had had a lot of calls since me....but he honored me being first caller, i did not try to talk him down one cent, as i knew if he balked, next guy would get it. Paid asking price of 4500. He was a transferring military guy who decided last minute not to take with him when he had to leave in less than a week.

Here’s one for ya
Bought a 98 manual 4x4 with 145k original last year
Garaged, clear coat intact, no rust, sunroof, dealer CD, all options except the auto, virtual OEM time capsule
Maintained but needed TLC
Did brakes, valve cover, all fluids, rear axle seal (bought HF press per Timmy and Sean), repaired leather front driver seat ,TB, “Highlander “ coils with 5100 Bilstein all around, even replaced the missing FOB…
Ready for another 50k+ with only routine maintenance
Only thing not done is OEM lower ball joints (didn’t own it long enough)
Thought I would keep it forever
By Word of mouth guy wants to see it
Have him over while doing the valve cover so he can see what it looks like inside and sees all the OEM packages lying around
Settled on $16500
Both of us satisfied with the deal
Can’t replace that one, so used some of the money on a 99 T4R that needs even more TLC
