is this hood scoop good....?

i put one on my 2000 4runner, but it was from the factory badlands....i think it fits 96-02....had no function at all, but looks good...ive seen a few people actually make it functional, by running hoses from the nose of the scoop, to the air intake box. the one i installed through toyota cost me 500 canadian, with paint and they just kept my old hood for a few hundred off the price.

i found an entire hood assembly with the scoop for $240 painted and shipped, i wonder if the toyota place will give me money for my hood.....

Probaby no different than the amount of water sucked in thru the stock intakes on some vehicles that are mounted behind the front grille...
