I tried to replace LBJs yesterday. The drivers side went fine but there is something wrong with the one for the passenger side. The hole where the tie rod end connects is way too big.
I checked at the old one and it looks like it has a bushing in there. I've been told that there isn't one so now I'm not sure what I have.
Here are old and new, side by side.
You can see how much oversized the hole for the tie rod end is, and what looks like a bushing pressed in to the old one. Maybe it's just where the paint rubbed off. Looking at them more closely to take the picture, the new one is different from the old one in several other ways as well, and pretty crudely made. The off center drill for the tie rod end looks especially strange.
I got them from Amazon, both at the same time. They came in one box but the bags were different. The driver side one came in a bag with Toyota/Lexus printed on it:
The passenger side one - the one that doesn't fit - came in smaller, plain bag. Both bags had the same part number stickers on them, but the passenger side one has an additional sticker showing what I think was the old part number - 43330-39815. The part I ordered - and the part number on the second sticker - is 43330-39585.
What am I seeing here? I've ordered a replacement from Amazon but now I'm not sure I can trust whatever they send me.
