Yes! That's a fuel saving feature (5'th gear); which will allow the engine to do less work to maintain hiway speeds with little effort, Enjoy!

Push it a little and it will come out of torque converter lock up, push more and it will come out of overdrive and go to 4th gear. In Drive, it is slow to downshift, I drive mine in S 5 all the time. It is a little more responsive, but still not strong.
Push even more and it will drop down to 2nd or 3rd gear, really rev up, then it will upshift and do a pretty good pull. It does this more quickly in S 5 mode than in Drive.
This is one of a very few irritations I have with my T4. The others are the headlights not being automatic and our weak A/C.
I'm still keeping it for 10+ years.

Agree with others. Like all automakers, Toyota has to meet CAFE numbers. Sometimes they do this by modifying shift points based on driving style. So if you’re not in a hurry and are being a little light on the pedal, the truck will respond by going to a higher gear. You can change this with your foot - push down more, and you’ll get more response. Personally, I like it.
This is the first I've heard that S5 is different than D. Are the shift points actually different between the two modes?
No. It is all about programmed throttle response. The throttle blade is programmed to react quicker when in sport mode. In D, Shift points vary dependent on Throttle positions / Speed / and load.
