Is this right?

So i did a fog light search and all that good stuff. From what I gather, my runner should be prewired for fog lights. Are they prewired to the dash as well so all i have to do is install a switch, or do i have to run wires through the firewall? Or do they just come on when my DRLs come on?

I don't think they were prewired. That was a dealer installed option on some. They just ran the wiring throught the firewall to the switch and mounted fuse and relay on the inner fender rail. Simple setup.

I would get aftermarket fogs and wire them yourself..

in my 96 it was pre wired all you do is look underneath the front bumper for the connections and on the left side of there steering wheel for a switch if thats there then all you have to do is plug in any set of lights that you want and you should beable to just flip the switch and they work but ur headlights do have to be on for them to be on and it shuts them off automatically when you turn yo ur highbeams on

I also have a '00 sr5 in black and was told when I bought it that they are prewired for the fog lights. All you need is the lights, mounting hardware and the switch. I can see the wiring connections behind my bumper.
Most makes of vehicles with fog light options will have the wiring and terminals built into the main harness on all models, not just a select few.
BTW, the factory foggies are absolutely useless unless you just want them for cosmetics.

Hey Techno, have you done the fog install or were they already installed? Also i've been looking at prices for fog lights and they seem to get a bit pricey, anybody know of a good set for less than 150 or so?

I dont have the lights. I will be replacing the bumper with an ARB one soon and will put driving lights on instead (something I will get much more use out of). Plus I rarely drive at night in fog anyway.
Also, it is my understanding that fog lights are intended to help light up the road at night when in fog by projecting light as close to the road as possible where the fog density is at its lowest. I find that most 4wds/suvs have fog lights mounted too high for them to be of any real value, instead they often make visibilty worse with the increased reflection. I have driven sports cars and sedans with fog lights that are only 4-6 inches off the road and its amazing how far the light travells down there, definately worth it then. But I have also heard that the lights increase your visibilty to other drivers too, so each to there own.

I just wanted to say that I have liked using the sealed beam lights that you can buy at about any auto store.
I have over a dozen extra lights and am almost pushing the limits of my alternator but i still havent blown it up yet.
I have 4 aircraft landing lights on the front which work great in the dark. I'm a light freek I know but I don't have to worry what 4runner is mine in the parking lot.
