Is this the correct wire to tap into? See pic, confirmation needed.

After reading a gazillion posts and looking at pics and my car for 3 days now, I think I have actually found the correct wire that I need to tap into to connect my Gentex Auto-Dimming/Compass mirror. See picture below. I couldn't see the coloring very well but it appears to be the brown/red one. This is located right next to the foot rest on the drivers side. I took the cowell cover off and found that. I believe the directions state the location is #A9 but I have no idea what that means. Can someone confirm this for me. Thanks.

That's the right connector (IE1) but the wrong wire (#D1). The wire you want (#A9 hidden from view in the picture) should be 1 slot to the left and 3 slots down from the green wire (#A2) on the left side of the picture.

Search your wiring diagram for connector IE1 to see the wire names. It's shown in section G (Electrical Wire Routing) in the 04 manual though it might be different in the 03 manual.

Thanks for the info. At least I am in the right area, LOL. I did look at the 03 wiring manual but couldn't really understand it. I downloaded it from a prior post. I will try to find it this weekend when I pull everything apart again. This is a 2005 so I don't know if anything changed. I doubt it. Is there an easy way to get to it? What happens if I take that bolt out? Is it easy to put back in or should I try to work around it?

IIRC, the bolt is there to help force the connector halfs apart. If possible avoid messing with it. If you must, then disconnect your positive battery lead and let your truck sit for 5 minutes or so BEFORE you mess with it. Of course, that's good advice anyhow.

Thanks Rando, I am going to take a look now and see if I can get to this damn wire. I guess I should stick to the easy mods as this is above me. I know it sounds simple but not so simple for those that know nothing about this. Thanks for the info!

No, it's not above you. You're just being extra cautious with your $30k+ investment. I don't fault you one bit. If you're not sure, don't do it.

I just came in from looking for the wire and things are so cramped in there how does one get to the wire? There appear to be wires all around and I can't even get to the other side to even see it. Is there an easy way to get to this or am I just being stubborn? I guess I could call my stealer and see if they could install it for me...obviously worst case scenario as they will probably charge me $40 just to install it. Does this module move at all? It would be easier if I could almost slide it out or just turn it a little so I could get to it. I like my first guess better, the one right on top, LOL.
