Is this too much to pay

Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting here, the information and builds are great. I am looking at a 1999 4runner here in Albuquerque, it has 223,000 miles - timing belt changed in the last 50,000 mile. The owner wants 5600 dollars for it. It appears to be in good shape. Its an SR5. Is this too much to pay? Not sure if it has lockers.
Any info would be great.

any aftermarket work at all? lift, tires/wheels... etc ? sounds high to me... i just picked up a 2000 sr5 for 8k with 111k miles. most will say mileage does not matter, but at 225k I think it does. If they will go down to like 4-4.5k then maybe!

I paid $5,800 almost a year ago for 1999 limited 4x4 with 140,000 miles. I think that sounds high to me. Granted I looked for the right deal for months. I think somewhere in the low 4's would be about right given the mileage in my market. High 4's would be tolerable.

Thanks for all the info. I think I will make a much lower offer. I can also wait for the right 4runner. Unfortunately, all your great looking t4r's make me want one now! Patience.

Abq's used car market sucks, you won't find the 4runner you want. Trust me.
I had to drive up to denver to pick mine up.

If around $5k is your range, check this one out:
97 toyota 4runner -----118k----4x4---- rear differential lock
'97 black SR5 limited, 118k miles. E-locker, 4x4
-assuming to real significant problems with it (rust, transmission, engine) I would really look into this one.

Or this one, in southern denver for $7k.
http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2135254883.html
97 green, leather and moonroof, 146k miles, 3" lift, 33" tires, 'mechanic owned'

Also try phoenix, dallas, and all the other big TX cities. All of those are way better than Abq.

It's too much, but not WAY too much. Unless it is immaculate and has lots of $$ in service records, it's probably a $4500 rig.

We paid $5300 for a '97 Limited with 232K miles a couple months ago. However, we bought if from the orginal owner, amazing condition.....and $19,000 in service reciepts. Not kidding. The guy went to the dealer for everything, and he did every service imaginable. It's had the timing belt done 3 times.

Is this the one you were looking at?

1999 Toyota 4Runner

If so, it is WAY overpriced.
-seller couldn't even be bothered to wash it before posting for sale... what does that tell you about how it was taken care of?
-very high miles
-modified radio doesn't work
-missing the rear bumper

pass on this one, in my opinion.

Let's do the math. 2011 minus 1999= 12 yr old 4R. 12yrs=144 months
So 223,000 divided by 144 months = $1548. So offer him $1600 in hard cold cash (like you're fanning the 100-dollar bills) and see if he will bite. :D
