Is windshield pitting really bad on 5th gens?

Less than 400 miles and the wife got the first rock chip tonight on her 2021 nightshade. We bought a 2015 sr5 and the glass got cracked on that too, less than a year old needed a new windshield.

Pitting is not an issue because the windshields rarely last more than a year before they crack from a rock chip.

I have little if any pitting in my '18 4Runner.

However, within a week of purchase (new) I got a rock chip and eventually a crack. Since the crack is not in my line of sight, I have left it alone. No new cracks since then. Only problem is if the sun is just right, I can get a glint off the crack.

I have 2018 ORP no pitting, but I have had to replace the windshield twice.

Not cheap...

While driving through a construction zone on the freeway outside of Mojave, CA during strong winds, my 2016 windshield was severely pitted by the blowing sand and had to replace.

Chips yes, pitting no. Bug shield no.
