For those that have done one or both of these, are you having to run premium fuel? Are you getting pinging with 87 octane? Just some things that crossed my mind before doing these mods this weekend. Thanks

I never buy premium cause there is no regulation or testing to prove you are getting what you are paying for!

No pings or knocks for me !

I buy it at the same station I buy premium for the supra. With all the equipment on board the supra the difference between 93 and 87 besides listening told by my tuning equipment. Trust me Detonation is no ones friend and since I've kept 93 in my truck I've had no more pinging.

Now thats not to say all gas stations are true to the premium brand. I've just stuck with the Exxon near my house that I've always used.

Nope, not here. There really isn't any reason the deckplate/isr mods should induce pinging that wasn't already there.

PS - We run 85 octane pretty much all the time up here.

Run the cheap stuff

I run regular with the elbow mod and AirAid intake with no issues.

I did a 2,500 mile test with each fuel grade and tracked mileage with every tank. No seat-of-the-pants power difference or pinging with any grade. I actually got 1.2 mpg better during the 2.5k miles I ran with regular.

If a non-supercharged 4Runner is pinging, it most likely has other problems besides the gas.

Holy Crappin Crap!!!!! I love the sound when you drop the hammer! I see my mpg's going down from driving like I stole it. Thanks to everyone that put up tutorials on these mods, they were fun to do.
