ISR Mod for 3.0

I have read all of the ISR mod threads and there is a lot of good information. I'm wondering though how long it took people to complete the mod. Also I read that there is an issue with the accessibility to the oil and trans dipsticks. Has anyone encountered this problem or found a solution besides removing the whole ISR?

well, the good thing with doing it yourself (as opposed to buying a premade kit), is that you can route it however you'd like. I personally haven't done this mod (YET!), and have seen various pictures of completed projects, I don't see how the dipsticks would be adversely affected, and the installation instructions are pretty straightforward. A quick google search can net you some high quality JPEG's of the installation/construction process.

if you reuse the old air filter box and get a new pipe that goes straight from the filter to the throttle body, the pipe will cover the oil dipstick (i have manual trans so wouldnt know about the trans dipstick). Its not that much harder to get the dipstick out and its really not an issue though once your used to it.

Also its probably one of the easiest mods you can do, hardest part i found was finding the right kind of pipe.

n8buddy, what kind of pipe did you end up using? I have heard going to a muffler shop is the way to go.
Fishrod, the mod will allow air to go straight from your airbox and into your engine. It will help with throttle response and make the 4runner louder. It might also help your hp a little and possibly mpg's. Its only around a $30-40 mod so I figured I might as well and If I don't like it, I will just put the stock one back on.

I started by using a kit i found on the internet with different pieces you clamp together to make the shape you want but it was made from thin plastic and broke after a year

i replaced it with 2" or 3" (cant remember) Rigid PVC electrical conduit that I bent to the shape i wanted with a heat gun. Its not as pretty as the first but it works.

I did want to use muffler pipe but i live in a small town and the local shop didnt stock the pipe and i couldnt find the right fitting so i abandoned the idea.

Thanks for the picture. Yeah I was able to find a muffler shop and got a muffler bent to a 45 degree angle. That was surprising the easy part. I'm having a hard time find the elbow fittings and the rubber hose for each end of the pipe. Hopefully I can get the rest of the parts soon and get mine going.

ya the elbow fittings are a pain to find the hose you can get at any auto parts store

I wanna do this now but I have a tendancy to break other things when doing "the easiest mods".

Also, im in BC, Canada, is this mod in effect "legal". Ie, will it make my car not pass an aircare or something along those lines?

You shouldn't have a problem passing any emissions test. Tons if people have it on their 4runner without any problems. Just keep your stock intake incase you run into a problem. I'm still trying to locate all the parts for it, but I should have it done soon.

Any down sides to this Mod? Other than lower gas milage if your a lead foot.

I read somewhere that someone kept getting the check engine light coming on?

Anyone else had any issues related to this mod?

I did this mod just Friday nite, i will post some pics soon or tomorrow.
I noticed a BIG difference in throttle response, being ALOT smoother in take off and Truly a noticeable increase in power in take off. And it did make my exhaust slightly throatier (already have 2.5 inch sports setup on it)

I did mine over a year ago put in a k$N filter with the stock airbox, no problems. then when I removed the cat and put on 2.5inch to a pro flow muffler My mileage went to hell in a hand basket. It did give me better throttle response. Also just sea foamed my truck the other day, made quite a difference hope to find a few mpg from this also.

Can i ask what "sea foamed" is? I have never heard this term.
