Issue w/ switchin from 4H to 2H

I'm on dry pavement but that doesn't' matter with our system, right? Right...

My speed is low b/c I'm in the company lot and I switch to 4H for the hell of it. It takes its usual 8-10 sec to engage but that's fine. I drive several hundred feet and come to a stop. I decide to switch back to 2H before I make a right around this stop sign. I do so and as I'm turning and slowly accelerating I hear a nasty THUMP from what sounds like the right front tire.

I straighten out and the 2H is in. What was that noise?! Was it b/c I was cornering when switching??

Front my understanding I thought you weren't suppose to drive in 4hi on the pavement on your partttime system..?!? Not sure but it's wise not to drive in 4hi unless you're on soft surface

No the part time 4wd is exactly the same as full time 4wd. You can drive it on paved surfaces, no problem. In fact, you should drive at least 10miles a month in 4hi to keep the system properly lubricated (as per the manual).

The thing you did wrong is turn before allowing it to switch to 2hi. The turning caused binding and the "thump" was the result. Kind of like a hard shift when you floor it- the tranny shifts smoother when you go easy.

Slight turning is ok but turning for a street is a fairly tight turn so it will cause binding. Once or twice wont hurt anything but don't make a habit of it or you will be replacing parts.

Drive in a straight line when changing between modes or at a stop. You can change between 2hi and 4hi up to 60mph safely, but don't load the system while doing it to save stress (like accelerating up a hill at 50mph and switching or braking and shifting modes).
To be honest, I only change modes below 10mph and don't feel comfortable or necessary to do it at higher speeds.
