Issue with HID upgrade on 16' 4R

So I installed the Xenon Depot HID kit for the low beams and have run into an issue I'm hoping is an easy fix.

When I turn my lights on, sometimes only one bulb fires and it takes me cycling the lights on/off 3-10 times before the second bulb lights up. I have double checked the wiring and it is correct based on the instructions and there are no loose connections. I would write it off as a faulty bulb, but once it does light up it will stay on the entire time so not sure what the deal is.

I have the same kit in my 14, when I wired them up one didn't fire, I swapped the ballasts and have not had an issue since. I did not even end up using the anti flicker harness... everything works great with no issues.
 
My one experience with HID a few years back was the exact same and the reason i'll never go back to hiD what a pain in the ass it was to flick brand new hid on off 5 times to get them to both fire up. bad ballast
 
It's either a bad bulb or bad ballast. I had the same problem. I switched the ballasts and the problem persisted on the same side. I then switched the bulbs and the problem swapped sides with the bulb. So bad bulb in my case. Xenon Depot the sent me a new bulb and it has worked normal ever since.
 
Just throwing it out there. you might also need to have a relay installed. Your trucks oem wiring may not be providing enough juice to the ballast. My camry needed a direct current with relay connection. The oem wires were providing enough power and caused one of my lights to flicker off randomly while driving at night. I would have to turn it off and on and maybe it would come back sometimes.

Try switching relays and if the problem replicates itself on the opposite side after that you have a bad relay. I've replaced both of My relays now over a three year period and I knew they were going bad by having to flick lights on/off several time to get both lights to fire.

No... You're okay bro! I have the OPT7 HID kit in my 2012 L.E. and it works better than I could have imaged! And yeah, the driverside HID lamp failed to start-up on two different occasions. At first I was pissed about that because I was so very happy about the install and performance. But it turned out to be just a mis-fired startup. Because the cost of the kit was such a bargain (at $33.00 bucks complete), I picked up an extra kit just to have in case I need to make a repair while traveling at night, so I keep it in the cargo area but it never happened again!

...the bottom line is you either have a borderline bulb or questionable Ballast! It might be worth it to carry an extra kit just for the spare parts in an emergency! 'Best to you',

Same experience with multiple kits on a couple different vehicles. It always cracks me up when I see someone with HIDs running around with only one on. I do agree with everyone else that recommended swapping ballasts to try and isolate the problem. I've had both ballasts and bulbs cause the same issue you're having. While I'd probably never go back with HIDs, some of these LEDs have caught my attention....

Why would you not go back to HIDs? Because of the fire-up issues?

And I've seen different comments as to whether HIDs in our setup is legal. Is there a definitive on this one way or the other? How would one check?
 
Just installed my HID's the other day. Mine did not like being connected to the negative post on the battery. I had to connect mine to some screws in the engine bay that were marked "E". Solid connection once that happened.

its fine to run them in stock housing. just adjust them slightly downward.

Yes, because of the fire-up issues in the past I wouldn't go with HIDs again. I loved the look and especially the output but dealing with lights that don't come on was a pain. Cold weather seemed to affect them the most. We were in ND one time, it was a balmy -20*F and I couldn't get either light to fire up for a while. That might be Ok for a set of off-road lights but not for my main headlights.

This whole "reliability" discussion is silly. No different than any other mod: Buy good (oem) products, know what the hell you're doing, and it works. I've had 3 HID retrofits in two cars, professionally done, over a period of 6 years, with zero issues, zero.

Buy aftermarket (usually cheap) kits, stick 'em in halogen headlights that weren't designed for them? Half the time installed by less-then-qualified owners? Guess what?

If the problem were "HID headlights", there wouldn't be dozens of car brands with them as OEM.

Interested to hear if issue has been resolved . Recently purchased a DDM Premium kit and one headlamp inop out of the box, narrowed down to ballast failure -returned for a refund. Looking into the Xenon Depot kit as hearing great reviews . Did you get the extreme HID or the Volt ?
