issues with new 2011 SR5 V6 4x4

Hi a few comments/questions about a new 2011 SR5 V6 4x4. This vehicle is 1 week old with 500 miles that i have put on it.

I have noticed two issues that bug me.

1) There is a hydraulic noise that occurs upon application of the brake pedal in any braking situation. Dealer says this is normal.

2) I have experienced multiple instances of the engine RPMs not dropping substantially after removing my foot from gas pedal:(. Happens in D mode (normal driving mode) on the multi-mode type automatic transmission. Happened a least 5 times in a week. Dealer went on test ride with me but we could not reproduce. Have anyone else experienced this RPM not dropping issue?

I might be able to live with the brake pedal hiss but the engine RPM not dropping fast enough is freaking me out.

Just like mine. Bothered me at first until I figured out that this vehicle is different than the one I had before it...handling, idling power, steering, etc. I now have 1500 miles on it and don't even notice the brake.
 
I've had the RPM hanging usually right when I leave my parking lot at work and pull up to the stop light or right after I back out of my driveway slowing to the stop sign at the end of the street. It doesn't happen after that, though, so I'd assume it is a planned thing when you start up and go to a stop shortly after. The torque converter isn't locked up because the car is still slowing. I don't think it is a defect... just a way the AT and engine were programmed to run with those conditions. It drives normally the rest of my commute.

+1 I have about 2500k on mine, and those issues bothered me @ first. Do a search and you will find issues like this beaten to death. I call it character! After a few miles you won't notice at all- the good far outweighs the bad on this vehicle! Happy 4Running-
 
Just as a sidenote, My wife has a 2011 FJ and her brakes make the same little noise as my 2010 T4r does.... Haven't really paid attention or noticed the rpm issue.
 
I have the squishy/viabraty break pedal also. I still have not gotten used to it, but it does not bug me any more...

...but it does make me appreciate the simplicity of my 2002 Super Duty Pickup!
 
It takes a lot longer to warm up the tranny than most people realize (like 10-15 miles). Maybe some of the issue. (?)

I also thought that the brakes felt mushy at first, but I got used to them.

The first time I used the break-assist feature was eye opening ... but it works as advertised.

Brake assist is a safety feature that will apply max brake pressure during a panic stop. When in this situation the brakes are slammed on and the ABS kicks in and prevents the wheels from locking. Most people’s reaction is to release the brake pressure slightly or pump the brakes. This is where brake assist steps in and applies max pressure.

Break assist is actually a feature introduced by Land Rover quite some time ago to help their vehicles break. It's been available for a long time on most Chrysler vehicles too.

Brake assist is a Toyota feature which increases braking power when you hit the brakes fast in an emergency - most people don't hit the brakes hard enough in this situation but brake assist compensates for that.

Brake Assist is designed to detect sudden or “panic” braking and adds the full pressure needed to help prevent a collision.

If something rolls out into the street in front of a vehicle, there’s only a split second to react.
Because the reaction time is so short before the driver hits the brakes, not enough pressure may be applied. As a result, the car may not stop in time.

But in a Toyota, if a driver fails to apply enough pressure to the brake, the Brake Assist sensors will detect this sudden or “panic” braking and add pressure. This additional pressure can help the driver avoid hitting the object.

OK, so the brake 'squish' is normal? my dealer told me so also. and with 3,500 mi on it now, i don't think i notice it. 2 issues i have though, drivers seat squeaks sometimes and some springs in the middle of the backrest seem to 'pop' in and out. some days the seat is solid.

and drivers side fwd molding over tire is loose in one please. i can push on it and it 'clicks'.

i haven't been back to the dealer since i bought it, I'll most likely just have them check it out when i go in for service.

otherwise, I LOVE it :D

You will be even more enlightened the first time you actual engage it ... it's a weird feeling. Another weird feature will show up if you turn too aburptly, not sure what that one is called ... pucker assist?

The hiss/squeak/vibration is from the vacuum diaphragm and stuff that adds the power assist to the brakes. Most larger vehicles make a sound of this type because of this, with GM trucks and frame cars of pre-1995 doing this commonly too. Maybe they still do.

The transmission won't go to "near neutral" free rolling state right away on the T4R, which would allow the rpms to drop. What I find more annoying that once it does, about 2 seconds later, it takes its sweet time to re-engage when you lightly press the throttle. Some other transmissions are programmed this way, like the one on my 2001 Maxima, although it never really goes to a like near-neutral (and so the rpms never drop), and so it does not have the delay when you throttle back up.

What I find annoying is when you mash the throttle, and after a quarter second delay (thanks, "sudden acceleration" lawsuit parasites), the whole thing launches as if the jolly green giant had kicked it in the rear bumper. Something a little smoother would have been nice.
