I picked up my brand new T4R at the docks this morning. After checking the oil and inspecting for dings (there aren't any) I sat for a minute to figure out the basic controls and switches, then swung her out on the road.

My first impressions are solid, powerful, and quiet, with just the right V8 low growl when I touch the go-pedal. It handles easily for its size and weight. Comfortable interior.

And she's easy on the eyes too, I mean, really f***ing beautiful!!!

Just curious , why did you pick it up at the dock ? Is there no Toyota dealer there in Alaska ?

When are the mods starting ?? whats the first one ? Tires !!!!!!!

My Uncle & Aunt live in Anchorage , there GM folks though....lol

There is a dealer in Anchorage, but they think they've got a captive market up here. If you're lucky you might get a $500 off their asking price, which would have been over $37,500. Plus they couldn't get the truck I wanted.
I shopped the west coast on the internet, and found the exact 4Runner I wanted, and I got it for $1700 under dealer's invoice.
The first mods were the weathertech floorliners that I just installed.
It's cold and the roads are icy today. The stock Dunlops actually seem to do quite well so far. It's supposed to snow tomorrow, which is perfect.
I'll give the Dunlops a chance, but my replacement for them will probably be Revos.

Congrats,

I've had my 4runner for almost 3 years, and I still love driving it. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's fun to mod too. I've put a remote start in and just today put a new pioneer radio in.

Dealers like that give people a bad feeling. I would take it over to the dealership and show the salesman you delt with what you got......but I guess if you have to go there for service that would not be a good idea.

See what you think about the Donlops , I got rid of mine the first day...lol. If I were you depending on your driving habit and the off road terrain in Alaska I would get a better tire than the Revo. get something rated for deep heavy snow , maybe with the mountain/snowflake symbol on them. Goodyear Silent Armor or BFG All Terrain. Revos are a damn nice tire, good in wet/rain , marginal in snow . Light snow it does fine , heavy or deep snow or wet snow they are not real good. Granted they might get you through but if your playin in some of that rough terrain up there with a lot of snow I would'nt get them. they are not made for that type of driving. If you stay on the streets primarily they would be acceptable.

Its so cool that it finally got here, I bet you cant wait for the snow to fall. I basically have the same truck and I just can't wait everyday to drive it.

What do you for work up there ?
 
Actually, we don't usually get a lot of deep, heavy snow. Mostly 1- 2 feet and other times icy roads,

Hell, back in the early '70s I had a 1963 Porsche 356 with half worn Sears tires on it. In the winter it was prudent to have a strong buddy along to push me out when I got stuck. Usually that happened at 2AM, while we were on our way to the titty-bar.

You say that now, I'll give you 2 weeks... max! Although I cant comment on your neck of the woods, the novelty will wear off when you see a 4r EXACTLY like yours, then you're hooked, you have to do something to make it YOURS!

Well, it's been maybe a month. But it seems that so many of you on this forum are old friends now.

When I got my 911(Ursula) about 9 years ago I really got into the car-enthusiast world. I joined the Alaska PCA, got into racing and gearhead stuff, then two years later I was VP. I organised and managed all the races and autocrosses up here. Then I became president of our PCA for two years. During that time I learned about how many terrific folks are motorheads.

Before today, I never owned a truck, a 4wd vehicle, or even a car with an automatic transmission. Earlier, all my cars were VWs, Porsches, and my old Volvo wagon (Ingrid), that I sold today

So I'm enjoying being an old fart getting into a whole new world with my new T4R(I think I'll call him Thor)

I plan to continue to be an active member here. Look forward to it.
