I'm pretty sure TJ/LJ Rubicons and Trail Team FJs are number 1 in resale since I've been looking at them for a few years now. 5th Gen Trail 4Runners seem to be holding their value best and used TRD Pro cost as much as new ones, sometimes more ...

Dealers do deal. Don't know where they are getting there info. $4000 off msrp is then norm in IL anyway.

Well they don't deal at all in Wa. I got a new one for the first time as I always bought used (3 previous) private party. I just bought my first Toyota from a dealer. I shopped months and literally all over the state. Having bought Chevy and Fords from dealers I was expecting at least 4K off MSRP. I spend months buying a new car from dealers and none of my family will go because I embarrass them.

I had two dealers tell me flat out that was the price 1500-2000 off a 16 and to go elsewhere if I wanted. I had others be nice salesmen but again they would not come down any more. I had one tell me if I was buying a Camry we could deal, but "That will be sold within the month if not earlier". I also had several sold within about two weeks of dealing on them. Salesmen would call or I would call and I would get "That one sold, but we have another one close to it".

I bought one eventually but did not pay what I wanted for it....if it was not exactly what I wanted and a Toyota....no way in hell would I have paid 2K under MSRP. (With some extra fluff things like oil change for life cheap junk from dealer)

All depends on location and demand. In high demand areas....they are much less likely to deal since they know that if you don't buy it, someone else will.

And...if you have a VERY specific request of an hard to find option....(like a manual trans on the 3rd gens back in the day).....you were typically not going to get much off MSRP...but then again, all depends on the dealer and their particular situation. Some may sell a vehicle at cost simply to build volume or hit a certain quota for the month.

My time and sanity are worth more than that. I know some people like you. I'm related to them. Some people seem to enjoy haggling. I think it's annoying. I just called a friend of a friend and said tell me your best price - it was fair and I bought it.
