I've decided to sale my 4Runner

Well after test driving a 2008 Black Urban 4Runner there other day at Toyota, I fell in love. I started off just driving it for the hell of it, but afterwards I wanted it really bad. So then my dad suprisengly said, "If we could get $20,000 or more out of yours, then we could get one of these." So I put it on Auto Trader last night, starting price is 21k, lowest we can take is 19k. Am I making a bad decision? I love my 02 and all, but the 08's, especially the Urban Runner's, are so nice...

Wow. That's a big step to sell a car you've put so much work and time into. You won't be able to upgrade it right after you get it will you?

Who ever buys your 4runner will have bought a nice SUV.

Are you selling it like it is or are you removing some stuff?

Getting 20k out of it might be hard to be honest.
 
If I get the Urban Runner it will be stock for quite a long time, I'm keeping it like it is because I've sold most of the stock parts on it that I replaced. If I don't have anyone interested I'll drop the price a little every two weeks.
 
Sorry to be brutally honest, but what your dad said about getting $20k out of your truck is equivalent to saying "when pigs fly."

The only way you're going to get close to $20k is if you part everything out. Even then, it'll be hard. How many miles do you have? I sold my 02 Sport Edition (90k miles) for $15k a few months ago, but the gas prices weren't at $4+/gal either. And it was winter time, which people were looking for 4x4's.

Personally, I will never buy a modded vehicle and by putting a modded car on the market, you are severely limiting your potential buyers. Again, put it back to stock. That's the best chance you will have selling it.

Good luck with the sale and purchase, though. I really do like the 4th Gen's. They'll be much more comfortable than your 3rd Gen.
 
I can't put it back to stock because I parted out everything that I replaced on yotatech and t4r.org

I've got it on auto trader, and next I'm getting to put it on vehix and cars.com

I'm sure my dad is willing to drop the price because I'm almost 100% sure getting 20k out of it is a joke. Maybe we'll lower it to 19 or 18 here in a week or two. It's got a little over 67,000 miles on it.
 
I think alot of modded cars/trucks dont sell well because people do half-ass jobs and they look horrible. This runner is done right and looks like a show car. He may have to drop the price a little but I think he can get a good price for it
 
The mods will severely limit the amount of potential buyers, but hopefully that just means you may have to wait a little longer to find a buyer. It's a great looking truck and it's obvious you baby it so that is a big plus. My .02 would be to lose the blacked out corners because they are illegal and downsizing the wheels because it should open up more buyers. I would imagine few people shop for 4WD AND 22s. Oh wait, one more: make sure obo is next to your asking price
 
Seriously your truck is really only worth $15k at best and that's a high point. There's 4th gens with the same miles going for a bit under $20k.


Plus the SUV/truck market has taken a major hit over the last month and the mods narrow the buyer market a bit.

Good luck but anywhere near $20k is probably not going to happen.

No. It's usually nothing. Pennies on the dollar at best. For example, I would not buy this 4Runner for any more than a stock one. And that's if I even want to buy a modded vehicle. I'm sure a lot of people have the same mentality. Plus, take into account the decreased demand for modded trucks.
 
I've got the stock rims & tires, I might put them back on there and sale it like that, and then sale sale the rims individually. That would be the best move...
 
Mods can easily be a plus when selling. They make the vehicle stand out from all the others, and saves potential buyers from having to do it all themselves sometimes. When I was buying my 4Runner I was especially looking for rigs with the mods I wanted, but they always sold really fast or I was 'outbid' by other buyers. Its the vehicles with extreme modifications that have difficulty selling, things like SAS's, SOA's, major body work or crazy engine conversions.
If you're in no hurry to sell, I'd leave yours as is and be patient, it will sell.
 
Mods still don't add thousands to the price. There's fully SASed,armored,locked '99+ 3rd gens struggling to find buyers and they're priced right in the mid teens w/100k miles and have easily over $10K in mods.

You have to find the right buyer to appreciate the mods and that right there narrows down the target audience.

The more street friendly a vehicle is the better since most people won't be plunking down a lot of money for a weekend toy.

That is your opinion only. You are a unique case from the ordinary buyer. More mods you've got, you exponentially decrease the number of potential buyers. This is fact.

I'm not saying it won't sell period. It will just be that much harder.

Did you not see my post after his...?

Its my opinion too! I'd rather buy a car already moded out if it has been done right like it has with this 4runner.
