I've got the shakes...

Hey all.

Just had my driver's side bearing and hub replaced at 140k...

well now, instead of a horrid whirring noise/vibration that a bad bearing will do to ya- I now have a shake. The entire truck, steering wheel and all shakes like a mofo from 73ish-80 mph - or my entire commute to school/work.

Somethings that are changing here soon...

Class for me is officially over... for the next two weeks until summer classes start here at the good ol University of Akron. In the mean time I'm getting new tires (girlfriend's dad was a Firestone exec here in Akron so some hella discounted 265/70/17 Revo AT's are going on with the wheel spacers I got for christmas), plastidipping my horribly chipping/flaking wheels, and uber-cleaning the underside to get off the dried on mud/grass/worms/etc. The tires I have on there now are Wrangler Silent Armors, and they are preeety well done. Slippery when wet, done. I half think between the crappy tires and the amount of mud caked to the wheels it could be throwing it off... I'll know once I clean and mount new rubber.

Now lets say, neither of those things solve it. What do you think I'm lookin at?

Thanks guys.

Mud can really throw off a wheels balance. Go clean them and see if that works. Not worth speculating until you try the obvious fix.

More details on the exact timeline might help. Was there a whirring noise so you had the hubs/bearings replaced and immediately after leaving the shop notice the bad vibration?

Or did you get them replaced, it drove fine. Then went mudding and NOW it drives poorly?

yep. Spent 45 minutes under the truck last night with a pair of goggles and a power washer. Problem solved. There was a ring 2-4 inches deep on the inside rim on both back wheels.

I first scraped off and pulled out the large clumps of stuff before hitting it with the power washer.

Case closed.
