Facing West at William's Ranch
THere's nothing like watching the sunset. I knew there was a reason I bought the Baja Rack. I wanted to reduce the noise and have "almost" everything in focus. The goal was to capture the sunset and the colors but not lose sight of the fact that there's a 4runner in the photo!!
Camera: 5D MK3
Lens: 17-40mm canon L @20mm
F/22 @ 6 sec
tripod- Yes
The shot off the porch was basically the same setup although I was at 17mm.
The third and final image data is below. I actually printed this one. It's one of my favorites. If I could have only one lens it would be my 70-200IS L series.
Camera: 5D MK3
Lens: 70-200 IS canon L
F/4 @ 1/200 sec
ISO - 1250

Just simply amazing photos! Thanks for sharing. They make you really want to "get out there". Love the one of you sitting on the roof. I have a favorite fishing spot in the Sierras where not only is it excellent fishing, but I can just sit there and stare at the mountains and trees and listen to the river and literally nothing else matters........

It's not even fair how much better the full frame 5D MK3 sensor is to the T3i cropped sensor.
Is the 70-200 your walk around lens or the 17-40? I'm looking at some new glass moderately priced and would love your opinion on something medium range ($400-$800).

Man, that's a tough one. I've always been told if you're going to spend your money, spend it on lenses. The 17-40 is definitely the lens that is on the camera the most. I would stay away from the 70-300's and the extremely "cheap" lenses. In that price range you could easily get a 17-40 L series used. Look on B&H Photo Video Digital Cameras, Photography, Camcorders. The 17-40 L would be in the high side of $800.00 but worth it. There are also 18 - 135mm or 17-55mm lenses that have great glass, and take crystal clear images, and if I'm not mistaken have image stabilization. I would definitely look at B&H photo. Search their used department. I bought my 50mm L series from them for a fraction of the cost. They have a rating system that is pretty spot on as well.
