JacksonRally 2006 V8 4Runner

Time for my very own build thread :reddance:

The wife and I purchased our 4Runner just under 2 months ago. With a new baby on the way we knew our Subaru Adventure Mobile was going to be too small for 2 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs and camping gear. I have always liked 4Runners and since Subaru does not have a decent mid-sized vehicle I was able to talk the wife into a 4Runner.

Our search began in early October. After chatting with some friends and lurking around the internet we decided on a 4th generation with a V8 :lookout: After narrowing the search we found ours at a relatively close dealer and brought her home that night.

The 4Runner is replacing my highly modified and capable Subaru. Stock 4Runner certainly leaves a bit to be desired in offroad performance.

Ultimate plans are:
-Icon longer travel c/o
-UCA's
-Icon rear springs and shocks
-1.25'' wheel spacers
-285/75/16

Parts I have:
-JacksonRally rock sliders
-Interstate deep cycle battery for 2nd batt (NO MAS)
-Bilstein 5100 front and rear

Mods to date:
-removed mudflaps
-removed factory side steps
-trac control off mod
-Bilsteins installed f+r
-rear Icon springs installed
-TPMS bypass
-1.25'' wheel spacers installed
-removed front sway bar
-Jackson Rally sliders
-High clearance front bumper
-Custom windsheild washer fluid reservoir

Subaru Adventure Mobile it is replacing (for sale!!!)

Sliders I built (I will weld on after lift and real tires are procured)

Nice. I'm digging the Subies! I had a modified '06 WRX and an '07 LGT SpecB. But, I love my t4r too.

Mmmm the LGT Spec B with the 6 sp..

Oh, and by the way JR., You can send them sliders my way so that I can test them out for you. You know, think of me as "Quality Control"

I may weld them on here pretty soon. Then I can make skids. Tires will have to wait til next year.

Almost forgot, I removed the front sway bar. Not a big fan of them anywho. And cut the tops off the old rear shocks to weld to the rear sway bar end links resulting in longer end links and the ability to use all of the travel the rear 5100's have. Its not much more but it is there for the taking.

Ok so after installing the Bilsteins and removing the front sway bar I think the T4R is leaning to the passenger side. From my understanding the driver side springs are .250" taller to compensate for the weight of driver + fuel. So I think by removing the front sway bar this is now noticable. Whereas with the sway it would actually maintain a level stance...thats my theory. Im thinking the guys with proper coilovers (Icon, Fox....etc) and no front sway can maintain a level stance due to the adjustment available in the threaded shock body.

Thoughts!??

I think I might add a .125" spacer to the passenger side and see what that does.

After removing mine I noticed that it did that too. most people use a daystar 1.5 spacer and put it in the drivers side rear coil to level it out.

I meant to measure wheel gap before pulling apart the stock stuff. I did measure after and there is 3/16-1/4'' difference. So I think with .125'' spacer that will give me back 1/4''

Two days ago I was on my way home cruising down the freeway and I started to hear an on throttle hum. Lift slighty and it would go away. First thoughts were the front diff as it has looked wet for a few days now. So I pulled off the freeway and took side streets the rest of the way home. Yesterday I pulled the skids and checked the fill plug first as it looked like the wettest spot and it was loose. So I pulled the drain hoping there was some fluid in there still and to my surprise there was a fair amount in there still. So I filled her back up and so far so good. No shavings on the magnet, but the fluid was shiney. We'll see how she holds up.

Lucky..

If everything goes according to plan tomorrow I will be receiving payment for my Subaru and ordering tires and picking up some wheel spacers.

I've always ran BFG's for most vehicles, strayed once and bought Pro Comps and those were horrible. I've seen a ton of T4R's on Duratrac so I have been giving them some thought....too many options. My gut says stick with BFG AT's. We'll see :reddance:
