Alright well I am a new member so hello to everyone out there in the t4r world, this is my first 3rd gen runner but not my first toyota. A little background on me and future plans/mods to be done to this runner.
I have only been around toyotas since I was about 16(am 21 now I know I am young) and that was helping a buddy do a 3rz swap into his 2nd gen standard cab pickup, fun right? Well I knew I had the Toyota bug from there and was out searching for a good 1st gen 4runner I would be able to call my own. unfortanatly everyone and there mom thought the trucks where worth gold or something so I had to settle for something in a 16 year old with no job budget a Jeep ZJ :cry2:.
Well that jeep only lasted me about 2 months before a drunk driver tboned me and totaled that heep out. So I delt with the insurance company and was a dumb 16yr old and took the first deal yadda yadda, needless to say I pretty much only got back my money I had bought the jeep for :ybrick: and in 2 months it seemed like the price of toyotas had risen! So I found a nice clean Jeep XJ another :ybrick: moment. But I enjoyed it for a year thrashing every panel on it because I didnt care.
Then the toyota gods spoke again and someone rear ended me at a stop light, this time around I was a stupid 17 year old who bargined with the insurance and got a better pay out, this time I took the money and ran to the first clean 1st gen TOYOTA 4runner I could find, I had just joined the Army NG and knew I was about to ship out to basic and AIT so I finally settled on a 88 4runner with a blown headgasket but had arb locker in the rear and a decent sas out front. I didnt even get to start on the head before I left for training.
2 Years later coming and going I had fixed the headgasket and loved everything about the truck but I was getting tired of it and it needed alot of odds and ends I didnt have time for so I sold it. :cry2: Big mistake.
Anyways I ended up getting a 96 Bronco a big truck that everyone loves besides my wallet lol, I had just started a new job and traveled about 60 miles a day and knew I needed a more economical vehicle, so after a year of serching I bought a really nice VW Corrado G60, had all the bells and whistles, owned that for exactly 7 days from purchased and someone cut a corner and hit me head on, Idk what it is about me and my dumb luck (and yes my insurance is crazy for what it is) I had owned 5 vehicles and 3 out of 5 are totaled beyond repair. and the one I drove and owned the longest without a problem was my faithfull Toyota.
So now I am thinking I am cursed and have to get back into a toyota, as I am jumping through hoops for my car wreck claim I find a nice 1st gen 4runner with a 22re, I loved it so I got it. fast forward about 10 months and the motor blows up on me(had 300k and I knew the motor would go eventually) Lucky me I was building a new re anyways in my buddys garage, but it still needed block work done and I was running out of money fast so I put it on hold until I got my money from the car wreck.
Now I am 21 and my runner has been sitting for a month without fixing it, and I just got the news I am going to be a dad! and got my settment! but I knew that the 1st gen would not be a good family wagon so I was off to find something with 4 doors, was an auto so the girl can drive it, and had alot of features I wanted and liked.
So that puts us to last friday when I picked up this great running and looking 3rd gen 4runner Limited. I already have a bunch of future plans for this when money allows(probably really cheap mods for the first lets say 18 years? haha jk) The future build plans are as followed but might change down the road. Thanks for reading and I look forward to reading alot of builds and getting better ideas
