Japan Tsunami effects on parts?

Any word on if the availability of Toyota parts is going to be effected by the quake / tsunami?

btw, so i dont seem completely like a self-absorbed "will my car be ok?" and i dont care about the victims of the quake, I really do pray that the people of Japan and send my most heart-felt condolences.

Yes, thoughts go out to all those suffering in/around Japan.

I'm not sure about Toyota parts but I do know that the Big Truck Ford plant in Louisville is shut down all this week due to parts shortages from Japan.

I was at the dealership recently getting crush washers and asked them the same question. They said that right now they are not having problems but think there will be some shortages. I guess it depends on how much they have stored state side. With how crappy the economy has been I am guessing that everything was delivered as needed with limited stocking.

They said that Ford isn't making any new trucks or SUV's in black because some paint additive that comes from Japan. If you're looking to sell this may be a good time. The shortages will probably drive up new and used car prices.

I work for BMW manufacturing in South Carolina and we use most of our electronics shipped from Japan. We have enough parts in house to make it until about the end of April. There is rumors around the plant of having to shut down due to lacking parts but there isnt anything concrete.

I did order a kit from DDMtuning.com and it has been ordered for over 4 weeks, shipped for 6 days, still not here. The last update I've got from tracking numbers says it landed in New york,NY 2 days ago. Either it hasnt moved or it hasnt updated yet. Although the tracking info started from China im not sure if the earthquake had any effect on it.

just saw on the news this morning that they may be closing the usa plants because of a parts shortage. but that the news... it can be wrong, fake, made up or just plain B.S.
