I've had my '04 Limited for about a week now and I am impressed on how much an improvement it is over my old '97 SR5 4Runner.
Two things that I had been a bit disappointed with are the lack of a 4Runner-specific integrated Sirius option (which should be resolved when my Landcruiser kit arrives today!). The other is the as-expected overall crappy sound quality of the JBL system. I am not interested in replacing the sound system, but I played around with it last night and was able to tweak it so that it sounds somewhat better.
First, turn of the ASL... I think that is actually just an "increase the boominess" switch.
Next, use the fader and tweak the sound towards the back seat one notch. This sounds to me to pull enough of the lows from the front 6x9s to clean up the boominess. The lows sound a lot tighter now.
Finally, I cranked the treble slider all the way to the max and the mids up one notch.
My overall impression is that the sound field is much more spread out than it had been. Can also hear more of the mids now from the fronts, as well as the tighter low end (which I already mentioned)
