JBL Synthesis Stereo "Brain"

Earlier this year I installed a Peripheral ipod/mp3 player adapter on my 2003 with the JBL Synthesis system to direct connect my Sirius radio.

Unfortunately, the Sirius is not available to the rear seat entertainment system, but I read somewhere that it is possible if you connect the adapter to the JBL "brain".

Anyone know where that unit is, and how to get to it? I'd like to try it so my daughter can listen to Radio Disney on the headphones on long trips while we listen to our music up front.

I think what is meant by the "brain" is in the JBL amp located on the sub box in the right rear quarter panel. This is controlled from the HU by 2 wires called TX + and - . Outputs to the rear seat audio controller are sent from the HU. I can't tell from the schematic but does it only send radio signals back there? If it does you could use an FM modulator (in the tape bay) and run the Sirius signal into that. Then it would come up on an FM radio station and could be listened to on the RSES.

I'm going to take a look back there at the sub box. The Peripheral that I have plugged into the head unit connects very much like an FM modulator, except that it uses the (12-pin?) connector to deliver the full digital signal. So if the amp unit in back has this same connector, or even the dual RCA jacks in, then I may be golden.

Thanks for helping me locate that - I was thinking it was buried somewhere deep behind the glove box somewhere. I will post the results for everyone to learn from.
