Hahaha, I got the same reaction from a Wheelers for the Wounded trail run during the summer from a bunch of jeep guys! They noticed how capable these rigs can be without even trying, and while they were having fun "topless" sweating their balls off I was comfortably in the A/C!

Wow, finally getting a skid plate huh? Still can't believe the stock skid has held this long after what you've put your 4R through, and all the other beefing but no skids!

The RCI aluminum plate is quite solid. I also have the aluminum transfer case plate. I had to get the steel rear plate though. The alumin plates are about half the weight of the steel plates.

The stock plate is in really bad shape. To get it back on after my most recent oil change, I had to drill new holes the plate.

I am tempted to call them and order the whole plate set.
 
Aluminum RCI skid next to the 2 OEM skids it is replacing. Yeah, they're in bad bad shape.



Weighed the RCI skid on a postage scale: 16 lbs. Also noticed that I can now reach the oil filter with the new skid installed. No more removing a skid plate for an oil change!

To install a Factor 55 winch thimble…
  1. cut off old hook from winch line
  2. remove retainer ring from Factor 55 with retainer ring pliers
  3. extract pin, insert winch loop underneath thimble, reinsert pin
  4. re-install retainer ring













 
jediwebdude Great build man love your 4runner and everything you've done with it! I want that DO front bumper sooo bad its by far my favorite bumper made for 4th Gens i think it compliments our 4runners front end best of all! :thumb3:

Great pics too i always envy you guys when i see all the amazing places you get to explore and go off road out that way!

These replaced my 1 year-old 32" BFG A/T 275/70 17 tires. While the BFG A/T tires are great trail tires, I found they were not suitable for more rigorous off-roading. Despite Hankook claiming these are 285s, I found it interesting that the tread is exactly 9" wide, which is what the BFG 275s were. So I'm not gaining in tread width, but am gaining in additional clearance and a tougher tire. Based on reviews, these Hankooks are ideal for airing down due to tread corner design.

How do you like those Hankook tires now that you have some use on them? I have the ATM's on my truck, want to get the MTM's this summer. I'm impressed with the ones I have already, seem to really dig in when needed, especially with the snow I have been getting this year. I haven't done any serious trails yet, only got the truck in October, but I hope to get there one day.
Love what you have done, exactly what I imagine for my own some day when I can get the money together.
 
Some photos from last weekend. Took my 17 yr-old son off-roading in his new 2006 4x4 TRD Offroad Tacoma, which now has a new suspension and lift, rear off-road bumper, bigger A/T tires, and rocksliders. We went with another father and son, who is a classmate and friend of my son's. They just put a new 22RE in the son's new 1985 4Runner as well as some other off-roading mods. It was a great day to watch our kids trying out their rigs for the first time at an OHV park.












I always prefer going up this than going down it...



Here my son is taking my advice. Even though he did this trail a year ago in my 4Runner, it is always best to go inspect what awaits you on the other side...



Here my son got in a 2-tires-on-2-tires-free situation. I yelled for him to push the locker button. Problem solved. Glad he got to try his rear diff locker for the first time...

I really like 'em. In the snow, they were okay. When off-roading, they are superb. When they wear down, I'll be getting the exact same tire.

Great! I read on the Hankook webpage that the MTM are better in snow than the ATM, but won't know until I can afford the lift and tires. I am satisfied with mine in snow, but it takes some digging before they do the job and when stopping they slide pretty easily. Of course it is a 5400LB truck that I'm trying to stop. lol. I just take it a little slower and give myself a little more space to stop.
On a side note, do you have a mod to turn all traction control off or do you just lock the Differential in and go? I noticed when I lock mine in and am spinning in deep snow that it still does some trac control stuff, just not the sliding control.

I don't have a way to disable traction control. Nor do I engage the diff locker (center or rear). I just rely on ATRAC in the snow to keep all the tires going.

My comparison of tire performance was with the Toyo A/T tires on my son's Tacoma. They seemed to do much better in the snow than the MTMs on my 4Runner. Still, the MTMs were sufficient.
