Jerry can on rear door?

So my girlfriend bought me a jerry can as a little present and I have nowhere to put it. I saw CBI makes a jerry can holder for 80 bucks. Do you guys think that the sheetmetal on the rear door is too thin to hold the holder and a 5 gallon can full of gas?

I was also thinking maybe I could use a metal plate on the inside and outside of the door to distribute the load more evenly?

Yeah, I would have to take it off to open the hatch. An added 30lbs and there's no way the hatch would stay open. Good point

I'd get a tire carrier for the back....then put the Jerry Can holder on that.....my 2 cents....

BTW, this isn't for everyone, but I like my carrier. It's completely removable and I find it works really well!

Fightman, if I lived near you, I would totally pay you to build me one. CBI's tire carrier is toooo expensive for me!

Back to topic, have you thought about a bike carrier to possible hold the jerry can? to hold a jerry can. there weren't any photos

fightman - I do like your creativity with your tire carrier. Right now it is probably too much work for me.

sqmd - I do have a bike carrier, but I probably would feel pretty sketchy about my gas can being held by one of those.

I liked the simplicity of bolting this jerry can holder on and that being that, but it's looking like I will need to find another spot. I really would like to put it somewhere, so my girlfriend can see the present she got me on my truck.

So your gonna flip the bike carrier with the jerry can on it down each time you open the hatch, that sounds like its gonna leak fuel each time.

put a gasket seal of some sort on that thing and put it inside.

Get a roof basket and make a mount for it up there. Or just strap it down.
