Jerry/Gas Can Mount 3rd Gen

This may have been answered before, but I didn't see it when I searched. I'd like to keep about 5 extra gallons of gas with me as I'll be living and working in a remote area of Colorado. I have a 99 Limited with just the stock roof rack and I'd prefer to keep the gas outside of the car. Where have you found to be a good place to mount a gas can?

try on the hitch or try to use the roof rack.

Plenty of aftermarket bumpers/spare tire carriers have a jerry can mount option.
I'd never drive around with a gas can on my roof.

I know for bajaracks you can get a fuel can holder. But of course that would require you to get a new roof rack.
