On advice from a boating forum I used Rustoleum Hammered Silver on my boat trailer. It is a galavanized finish trailer and the spray cans of galv. finish look very dull (I tried some and hated the finish.) I applied the Hammered from spray cans and it looks like a new trailer. Three years later it still looks new and no rust or flaking. I think I used four cans for a 14' trailer. I had to kill a lot of rust before painting. I used naval jelly and then "Rusty metal primer." If you have a pinted finish trailer you can use it or use any Rustoleum color on it. Sorry no pics. The computer I had back then crahed long ago.

What's on there now?? Bare steel? Galvanized? Already painted??

I would probably use a two part epoxy... you spraying or hand painting?

90% sure its old powder coat. would be repainting over it. rough up the surface. Ive used rustolem hammer on my sliders and its held up well but does have ware locations but that is given. Im also thinking about getting it sandblasted and powder coated.
Not matching anything and was thinking spray would be easier then rolling it on but im open to either way. I have used 2 part epoxy paint for a garage floor. Not sure how well it would stick to another finish.
edit. Planning on going with a darker color, most likely black.

gotcha!!
I would stop by your local autobody paint supply house and explain the scenario to them. They probably have a Dupont or PPG color, pretty reasonable, that will give you good protection, and be relatively easy to apply. The 2 part epoxys I'm referring to, are from companies like Endura ( a pretty heavy duty product)...nothing like the stuff from HD. Talk to a body guy, or a shop, their advice will get you headed in the right direction, especially if you're trying to work on a budget.
