Seeking advice, sell modified or return to stock

Hey,

Thinking of possibly selling my 2010 4Runner trail edition.

Wondering if the cost of returning back to oem vs just selling as is, is the right route.

No real big modifications, but tastefully done.

Armor: Full RCI aluminum skid (fuel tank all the way to the front of the vehicle), replacing back to oem on the used market would be a few hundred. Selling the rci skids would offset the cost or net me a few hundred.

Suspension: icon stage 1 suspension with camburg upper control arms. Replacement to oem used would be a few hundred. Resell on the suspension obviously would net me a few hundred. However I would require a professional to change out the suspension and that would eat any profit on this.

Other mods: ARB snorkel. Would have to buy an aftermarket fender for a few hundred and then get it painted. Also a new air intake cleaner box which is around a hundred. This would be a hit on the cost. ( I do have some door damage on the passenger side that needs to be fixed and painted so spending some more to get the fender installed and painted at the same time is not much of a big deal for me)

Tires: 285 wildpeaks, return to street tires plus alignment and balance. A cost hit here as well.

I’m wondering in this current market if the hassle is worth going back to oem based on these mods unless selling as is with the mods will significantly be a higher loss on the sale.

Most never ever recover anywhere near the cost of the mods when selling and many have gotten better prices for unmodded T4Rs over modded T4Rs, many buyers who want a modded T4R would rather do the mods themselves than to buy one already modded, and then some buyers just want a stock T4R, so if it were me I would just take the loss/less money on the sale (my first choice) and move on or return it back to stock and try and sell the modded parts and hope it covers the OEM parts and labor.

That all being said only you can make this decision.

I agree 100% with everything AuSeeker said.

People always think they're going to recoup the money they've put into their vehicle, whether it's new tires or tons of modifications. It's really unrealistic unless you can wait and wait until the right person bites.

Sell it for what you can get now or restore it somewhat to stock, sell the truck and the parts if you can find buyers for those.

Or keep it and have fun.

Truth. The ultimate in that is the guys who buy an $800 Honda Civic, put a 3K stereo into it only to find out they now have a $900 Honda Civic.

There are a few special cars and modifications where it works, but they're few and far between.
