JL Stealth box

opinion on the JL Stealth box anso a question about it

I was thinking about putting the JL Stealth box in my 04 sport....but it has the shelf option in the trunk...do anyone of you know if you can still put the stealth box in the back even though i have that?....

also does what do you think about them...like the way it sounds or not?

On Limited Editions, the removal of floor package tray is necessary.

Not sure if that's what it's talking about is the shelf system. I have the shelf system and mine is an 04 SR5, not Limited.
 
The double decker system is standard on the Limited and option on the SR5 and Sport Edition.
 
Stealthbox is overpriced, you'd be better off building or having someone else build you a box - and be able to use the DD shelf too. Alot of people in here have done that with very impressive results.
 
Also, does anyone else ahve an opinion on the stealth box?
have they heard it in the car, and did you like it or not?
 
I have the stealthbox... I think it hits pretty darn well considering its just a 10. The shelf is inop after you install the box. It is in the "down" position after you install the box. Bass is super smooth and compliments the stock system well. So well that I do not plan on swapping anything out anytime soon. I get compliments all the time on the system as a whole and my friends and aI don't really care for hi-end competition sound anymore. Keep in mind that I have factory navigation also so my options of pulling my JBL system is limited/non-existent.

I am more than happy with the box since I really need my trunk space for trips and gear, etc. I used to have 2 solobaric's and a bunch of amps back in the day but have given up on that whole scene.

If you can get it used I say do it... nice bass, small footprint, little power needed to push it. One time on ebay that box went for 200 used, which isn't bad at all
 
hey man can you take a few snap shots of the set-up. how are you powering it? Where did you stick the amp at?

I didn't understand if you said you the JBL system or not.

If so how does it work with the JBL Sub being back there also.
 
I am currently away for work so no pics for 2 weeks..

I'm powering it with RF amp punch 125.2 tucked where the sub box should be. THe sub box hides the amp completely.

If you have the JBL synthesis system (which I do) you will have to use a line converter and tap off amp. THe stock sub box will have to be removed because the stealth box protrudes into the cubby hole a little bit.
 
custom made box

Hi

I had a custom box made for the rear of the car where the stealth box would go, however had it built right into the space of that storage compartment on the right.

They guy who did mine kept the mold for the compartment, so if your style of truck is the same as the 06 I have, I am sure he could make one easily.

I will have to find pics, it is on this site to but posted back a ways prob about two months or so.

let me know if you can't find my post and I can send you pics.

Stealthboxs are not overpriced. You are insane!

You probably think that JL just made a box for the car, then a mold for it and keeps reproducing it and making mad money off it. Wrong. Stealthboxs are DESIGNED and ENGINEERED for each car and the sub that goes in it.

The sub itself for the new 4runners is a 10w3... right there is $229 of the $649 the box lists for.

So you got $420 left to build a box. Sure it can be done for a little less, but do you think your installer is going to build the box over and over testing sound quality until it sounds like it should? Highly doubt it.

They aren't a bad deal.... its just when you see these companies like Q-Logic coming out with a box made for your car at $100, then the stealthbox seems pricey. There is a huge difference between building a box for a car and engineering one for a car.
 
Q-Logic are cheaply made boxes, I agree.

But $420 for a box...?! THAT's insane. Any quality installer or weekend craftsman with basic tools can build one for less than $100 and make it sound just as good. I have, and I'm not by any means a pro. (and I currently have a JL sub in the box too). Anyone who can hear the difference between a quality DIY build/install and a stealthbox should be competing, and therefore wouldn't waste their money nor time on a stealthbox.

But it's your money dude. The price of any good or service is determined by the market's demand for it. So if people are willing to pay $420 for a box, then I guess the box is worth that much. :confused:

I agree you can build it for under $100. But $100 + labor?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about custom work and I agree completely that JL puts a pretty price tag on all of their stuff... BUT JL stands behind their product 100%.

Yes I'm a JL dealer. Actually the number 1 JL marine dealer in the southeast region, and so I have a lot going on with JL. JL's tech support, customer service, and overall quality cannot be touched...and to me that makes paying a little more worth it.

yeah, I guess adding labor would bring up the cost a bit. I'm biased because I'm good with tools and have more time than money. Otherwise, I might have considered buying the SB.... and only then if JL designed the it to be used WITH the double decker shelf, instead of rendering it useless.

FWIW..... IMO, JL subs are simply the best value for the money.
