Also, I am currently working on figuring out the maximum collapsed measurements for stock bump-stops. I believe this will help folks better pick out and project their lift.

Like right now I think my rear bump-stops are too long as I bottom them out with the smallest speed bump...haha. The OME shocks i have still seem to have travel left so I will try to shorten the stops.
 
25-237429 tundra 5160. has anybody tried these? ive been searching with no luck. from what i gathered the 4th/FJ 5160 25-227611 is valved a little too soft. From what ive gathered bilstein indirectly said its closest valving is 170/60. curious to see what the valving is with the tundras

Paired with the Dobinsons C59-210v coils (progressive), the 4th Gen 5160's feel pretty well matched - not too firm, but definitely not soft. I'm also running a fully loaded storage drawer system in back and full Sherpa roof rack, so I'm sitting at about 3" of lift (24" hub-to-fender) with the roughly extra 300 or so pounds resting back there.

I thought I read somewhere that Tundra rear shocks tend to be more soft because of the stiffer leaf springs? I don't have much offroad experience yet with my setup, but I have been reading up a ton this last week on the relationship between springs and shocks for offroad applications, so it'd interesting to see if we could start a comparison thread based on combinations to help compliment this one and the shock discussion. It's probably going to be more anecdotal in the long run, but it would definitely get people closer to a worthwhile setup without so much trial and error or settling for something that may be popular but not the best for their needs.
 
We also have the Eibach pro-truck lift kit, which offers some Eibach shocks. I haven't heard very much about them and how they ride but I would really like to hear some feedback as they are pretty affordable.

also, the wheeler's website says a 46mm diameter design. is that the body diameter or the piston diameter? if it's body diameter, then it's smaller than the 5100 shock

Those would be really long, and I'm not sure if 2nd gen tundra rear shocks will work for 3rd gen 4Runner's.

My understanding of 5160 shocks is it's the same piston size as a 5100 shock, but with an external fluid reservoir for more fluid capacity to reduce how quickly the shock fluid will heat up and cause shock fade.

Leaf springs are somewhat 'self damped' due to the friction action when they move - so shocks meant for leaf spring applications will be softer than equivalent rate coil sprung applications.

As far as I know, you're correct on the component similarity to the 5100's. The resi is designed more to equalize dampening throughout the stroke than anything else. The reduction/elimination of aeration (heating) is an added benefit, but more of a quality attributed to the monotube design.

is there a King shock for the rear of the 1996-2002 4Runner that has no piggyback reservoir? I browsed the Filthy Motorsports site but could only find the ones with piggyback reservoir.

I'm assuming that the lower shock mount bushings would have to be changed if fitting these to a 3rd gen but the top mount bushings/hardware would be the same?

I'm wondering if IMS59-50705 would be equivalent to the typical rear 4th/5th gen shocks offered by companies like bilstein since it's advertised as their stock weight valving?
