Jsmarine's custom winch bumper

Well for the past few weeks I have been building a custom winch bumper. its been slow going as I only have time to work on it on the weekends. I should finish it this coming weekend, all welded up and painted. I have been taking a lot of pictures along the way. I do want some opinions though, I am thinking of adding a grill and headlight guard on the top, similar to an ARB or a TJM bumper. What do you guys think, grill guard or no grill guard?

Oh, and I will be adding some fog lights into the bumper too, I will probably french them in.

Vey nice work! Cool look too. Did you make a jig? I have a feeling you're going to get hit up for some more bumpers!

Unfortuantly no, I did not make a jig. I talked about that with my brother who helped me, as we may get requests to build more. It is a very labor intensive process of designing and building it, we should have kept all the templates we made. I will be making a rear bumper too sometime soon, so I will try and keep track of that.

Nice job. Yes, you will probably get some requests. I would put a stinger on the top that follows the lines of your middle grill, similar to mine. Just my .02

for the rear bumper I want a tire carrier and I am thinking of a jerry can mount, and hi lift mount too. I thought about a roof rack for those items, (and I saw yours for sale manhunter) but I am only 5'7", so it would be pretty impractical for me! haha, I don't think I could get anything down!

Nice work man!!! I like it alot! no grill gaurd, you can always add that later if you really think you need it, personally I like the way it looks without.

That is one reason I took it down because with the 1.5 bodylift, it made it even harder to reach up there, and I'm 6'2. I am also wanting the rear bumper with spare tire and hi-lift mount. Maybe we can put our heads together and design one.

I cant afford powder coat, so I will probably just 'rattle can' it with some black rustoleom. That way its easy to touch up when I scratch it on the trails.

You should have seen my original bumper, it was all beat up from the trails! The approach angle on these 4runners, especially with the fat lip is horrible. I built this one as close to the body as possible, and also angled it below as you can see in the pics to help with the approach angle.

poor man's rhino line... Gray krylon stone texture spray paint (one coat) duplicolor bedliner (3 coats). total cost for the whole front bumper would be less than 40 bucks. and it would take probably an hour and a half tops. the stone paint takes a little while to dry, but the bed liner takes about 5 mintues. also its really easy to touch up if it does happen to scratch off. heres a pic to refer to.

OK heres what I had in mind for the grill guard part, its very similar to a TJM bumper, but angled back instead of straight up. Thoughts?

I know the picture is crude, but hopefully my idea comes through in the pics. I'm not very good at Microsoft paint, ha!

yeah like the tubes, give it a go, and that stone paint is good as well as it hides runs pretty easily as well. pic or it didn't happen!!! (aka get on it dude!!) lol
