Just a couple of questions

New member here, just had a couple of questions.

I've done some searches within the forum and also on the web, no obvious answers were found.

I recently purchased a 2007 Limited 4WD 4Runner with Navigation and love it. I've read hundreds of posts so far and clearly there are some great tips available here.

So here it goes...

Can I permanently disable the auto dimming rear view mirror? When I start the truck, the green light is lit, I can press/hold the button and it disables the mirror. When I restart the truck, I must repeat the process. I don't want to unplug it because I do like the compass. And to pre-answer the question as to why, because I don't like it.

As far as the Navigation screen, I want to be able to start the truck and have it always default to the audio screen. The manual shows a setting to do this, and I did. But for some reason, there are times, that it wants to go back to Nav. I think if the radio is off when you turn the truck off, the Nav screen comes on when you re-start the truck. If you power the radio up at this step, the Nav stays on and you have to press the audio button to see, lets just say, the MP3 mode with folder detail.

I know these both seem like minor issues but I'm just thinking that Toyota would allow for some customization but I can't seem to find out how.

I already know that the dealership has to program the 2-step unlock feature for the keyless entry.

Any thoughts and/or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

For the most part, since its a new to you vehicle, I would say live with it for a bit and you'll get use to it. But here's my 2 cents anyways.

I have no idea about the Nav, personally I would get rid of it and get an aftermarket unit that's more customizable and cheaper to update.

As for your auto dimming mirror, look at the wiring diagrams, which can be found in the sticky thread at the top of the 4th gen page. You might be able to cut the power wire for the auto dimming if its different from the one for the compass. Alternatively you could get a new Gentex mirror that looks stock and has a compass without the auto dimming feature.

Thanks for the reply! I thought of just cutting the wire. I believe there are 3, one each to power the compass and mirror and the third for ground. I just wanted to check on options before cutting anything.

I've done the map light/door switch mod already and I love it, Just wasn't sure if anyone had any issues regarding the mirror.

As far as the aftermarket Nav, is there one that's compatible with the steering controls? I have an expedition where I did the same upgrade but I lost all factory controls on the steering wheel and rear console.
