I was recently out west fishing and saw a real nice 4runner decked out for fly fishing.The guy had a great way to carry rods between stream stops. He glued 2 picture frame hooks in each rear corner up behind the windows. After attaching the hooks with some glue and small screws he ran a piece of 1/8 bungee between them. This supported the reel seat and rod handle. For the front rod support he placed a large "O" around the front rear-view mirror. When he returned from fishing he let the front of the rod hang from the "O" ring and hung the rear section of the rod over the stretched bungee. This worked great for transporting rods from place to place without anything getting broken. Also the rods hang close to the headliner and are pretty much outta site. Thought it was a great idea. Works for spinning rods too.
His 4runner was pretty old with hardly any rust. Road salt he said will eat your truck alive so a couple of times during the winter on a warm day he pulled one of those "back and forth" lawn sprinklers underneath front to back. I tried this and was amazed at all the crap and salt that came out. Only hassle is dragging out the sprinkler and frozen hose out to do it.These ideas probably go way back but I thought I'd pass'm along anyway. They worked great for me.Wish I thought of it first.:beer:
