just bought 05 4runner

just bought one, first of all, love , love, love it, but.....when I first got it, I was getting a little rough start lasting less than 30 seconds, with the check engine light which always reads misfire on 4. been in the shop like 6 times, finally sent it to Toyota and they say, blown headgasket, came back from Toyota and it will hardly run. so I'm guessing the person that traded it in, knew of the problem, and somewhat covered it up. it's never ran hot on me. so again, just guessing that the previous owner ran it hot which blew the headgasket. so, now I'm going to spend the money to replace it. 2500 bucks...I have 140 thousand miles, will it be worth spending the money on it??

Damn bummer , dealer or private ? LOTS of posts on this issue unfortunately ! Depends how much you like it , read all the or enough of the posts & see how you feel after . IMO it's worth fixing .

if you fix it with the upgraded gaskets for $2500, which is a good price, you'll get another 200K out of it with minimal maintenance

When you are dealing with Toyota, it's not cheap....even the so-called "minimal maintenance"....$1000 just for a complete oil change on front/rear diff, tranny etc.

Head Gasket thing is a known issue - waiting for mine. Let the engine warm up gradually, don't just get in, and go WOT after start.
