Just bought 18" OEM wheels...Need tire advice

Hey guys. I just ordered the 18" limited wheels for my 05 sport. I am looking for tires to mount on them. I have gone back and forth on the whole issue. Trying to figure out which brand to get. Right now here are the front runners with links to tire descriptions. I would like input from members as I am a total tire idiot and know nothing about them. I figured, "What better place to ask about tires for these wheels then toyota-4runner.org!". So, please provide feedback and help....

I would also look at the Goodyear Fortera with SilentArmor...i think that they come in stock 18" size. And i believe that Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor also comes in that size now. In addition, i would seriously look at the Yokohamas H/T-S or the higher performance tires...Yokos are excellent in both reputation and quality. Unlike some of the companies above, Yokohama is a big Japanese tire company.

i have yoko geolander g052 they are awesome, it truly feels like your riding on air and performance is a major difference u should look into it

Since those links point to TireRack, check out the customer reviews there. Of your list, the Blizzak is the only one that got some "superior" ratings in a couple of categories. The worst reviews were on the Wrangler, which was actually rated "fair" in some areas. Don't buy a tire with any "fair" ratings, unless those ratings are in an area you don't care about. "Fair" is usually bad.

The OEM tire on my '06 Limited is the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV. It got very high ratings, but I also see it's the second-most expensive tire on the list of 265/60R18's.

That's exactly what I did and with the BFG's at $89/tire I couldn't pass it up. The customer ratings offer some very good objective advice about each tire.

I know it's not on the original list but I would go with the Mich CT. You get what you pay for.

Would I be able to use a 275/55 series tire without problems? What about a 265/65 series? I am only replacing the four main tires. How would this effect my ability to use my spare (stock) if I needed?

When I replaced my wheels and tires I chose the BFG's in 265/60R18 which kept the same overall diameter as my stock 17" wheels with 265/65R17 diameter. This means if I ever get a flat, I can throw my stock spare on there and it should be fine.

The reason you want to keep the spare diameter the same as the other wheels is because if you get a flat, and you put a smaller spare tire on, the traction control will sense a difference in angular velocity (wheel speed). A smaller wheel will turn faster than a larger wheel which will trigger the traction control to brake the wheel that is spinning faster, not a good thing when driving on-road.

I have the 275 55 18's on TRD rims. I have the stock 17" spare and have been crossing my fingers since the wheels were installed at 36K miles. I'm at 60K miles right now.

I am planning on purchasing the 265/65R18 BFG ATs sometime after my OME is installed.
