Just bought 2002 SR5

I just purchased a 2002 T4R with 143K on it. The body is in great shape, as is the interior. Carfax notes no accidents. There seems to be a little more than normal play in the steering. I have only driven a few of the 4Runners on test drives. One was extremely loose but it had two front end collisions on the carfax. The others were pretty good. I am just wondering if the little bit of play is a "normal" thing for these 4Runners or not. I understand that it is on a frame and not a unibody truck. If the front end is a little more loose than normal, what parts should I look at to see if it can be "tightened up" a bit?
Thanks for your input.

$20 for the rack bushing themselves, but the labor is 2-3 hours if you don't DIY. You need to have a look at your tie rod ends too.

rubber bushings in the steering rack are prob. worn, you can replace with poly for less than $20

I am definitely no mechanic, but I can get through most minor repairs by myself. Can you lead me to an illustration of the bushings you mentioned?

Thanks very much.
