Just bought a 98 T4R Limited!!!

Well I am new to the 4Runner world but it seems that there are a lot of loyal enthusiasts here. Well I'm glad about that because so far it has been two weeks and I have nothing but great things to say about this car.

I use to own an X5 4.4 and mind you this a completely different class of car so there is no comparison here but I truly love the capabilities of my 4Runner.

I scored an awesome deal so I just coudln't pass it up. It has the TRD supercharger kit that was installed at the factory. After looking at all possible options offered for the 98, it actualy has all of them including the E-Rear Diff Lock.

Love the truck, that's all I have to say! It does have 116,000 miles on it and I expect a super charger rebuild in the very near future with this amount of mileage.

Anyhow, just wanted to brag and say hi to everyone here. I'm sure I'll be exchanging words with you guys soon....

The original owner purchased the super charger at the dealership so it was a lucky/unlucky find. We'll see....I love the power but I fear it will need servicing very soon.

Actually it does not have a 7th injector installed.....I purchased this car from a girl who knew absolutely nothing about engines so it is my duty to bring this truck to life!

I've decided to take out the super charger and ship it to Magnuson in N.J. to have it rebuilt like new!

Once I reinstall the charger, I will look at fuel management modifications to compensate for leaning out in RPMs.

Ultimately I would like to add some Edelbrock or TRD headers and a cat back exhaust, but I will take it slow with this truck. It is in great shape and once the charger is back up to snuff and a better fuel system installed, I should be good for a while.

Unless of course someone here can tell me what should be done to it????

Depends on who you ask. Koz on this board has had a s/c in his or his family's 3rd gen since it was new w/ no other mods and no issues.

If you ask people on yotatech, they will tell you that fuel mods are required. The recommended fuel mods are either the TRD 7th injector or the URD kit.

They will also recommend a VB upgrade if you have an auto. This will save your tranny if you like to launch the truck in 1st and 2nd gears.

Definitely some kind of piggy back system to help w/ timing.

Headers will definitely be good w/ the s/c so you can get more air out of the motor.

There's a few other things like a bigger fuel pump, colder plugs, tranny cooler if you have an auto, etc.

The s/c is awesome and once you get it dialed in, it should run like factory but it's all up to you on how you protect your motor from grenading if you don't do fuel mods.

Thanks for your advice.....something to follow when planning my journey through modification land! To tell you the truth I have sold my mustang and tried to get a more practical car, which in one sense the 4Runner does a great job for practicality but on the other side I want to upgrade this thing more than I did the stang!!!!

Ha Ha.......don't be, just got lucky that it came with one when I bought the thing.......actually yah, I would be jealous in your shoes too!!!!!
