Sport hood
One owner
Timing Belt replaced @ 175k
Clutch replaced @ 200k
AC serviced 190k
New tires

Paid $3,300 + $220 docking fee = $3,520

Hard to distinguish in the pic but does this have the electronic locker? Going to change out the sport hood with my 2000 Limited and resell. What would you guys price this vehicle for resell with given the information above?

No it doesn’t. Congrats on the purchase, looks good!
 
No Rear Locker.

Pricing depends on where it was located. If it's snowbelt you probably paid just about right for it. If it came from South West, clean carfax/no accidents, you could probably sell that for 4-5k all day long here.

EDIT: If it did have a rear locker, it'd be worth 1k more easily to those in the know, which at this point, are kind of the only ones left buying these 20 year old trucks (a good thing).

Wait, so you're going to keep the sport hood for yourself? You should keep this & sell your limited. This is a much more desirable truck.

If your tried to sell me a 2000 Manual Sport/Highlander without the hood I'd tell you to go scratch.

You just bought this for the hood?? Do you even know if it's frame is rusted out or not?
Without pics of the frame, no one could give you a good ballpark value.
 
I can't tell, is it a 2WD or 4x4? Like others said, seems like you'd severely reduce its value by taking off the hood, so I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with this approach.

And maybe you were being sarcastic, but the steering wheel screams anything but "creampuff" to me.

Yea, I’m going to replace the hood with my limited hood. My 2000 Limited 4Runner has 105k miles. I’m not going to substitute a cloth seat, manual, 220k vehicle for what I currently have.

Lol it will be sold with a hood. Just swapping out my limited hood for the sport hood. I think it won’t sell for as much but I’m not sure if I would agree with “severely” affect the resell price.

No, I get that you weren't planning to sell it without a hood :). I meant without the sport hood.

I'm not trying to criticize, because I know that no one likes people telling them "you shoulda done a b or c" - ask me how I know given that I may not even be able to register my truck :(.

I'm just trying to understand your plans - so you basically bought this truck to flip it, after swapping hoods, and you're asking how much of a profit you can make. Right?

In principle that's not a bad idea (considering how hard it is to find a sport hood), assuming that the flip deal works out, after taxes license etc. I'd be curious to hear how you make out on this.

So the thing is I've looked around for 4 months to find a sport hood in millennium silver and the closest I could find one was in Orlando, Fl. The won't ship either. So my logic was to find a 4Runner with a sport hood, swap out my limited hood, and resell it for no less than $500 what I paid for it originally. I figured I would pay upwards of $500 for a sport hood anyways (assuming you can find one). So for me, if I can this 4Runner for $3,020 I will achieve my goals. If I can get anything above $3,020 than it was a score.

Hopefully, that provides better insight. Here's the pictures of the frame for those who were asking.

Thanks for the clarification - I think the title of your thread confused folks.

I think this is actually a clever approach to get a sport hood, assuming you can flip it for the cost of the hood. Please do post back, I'm curious how it works out.

Thanks bud. I got so fed up with not finding one that I had to think outside the box a little.

I've flipped a 4Runner, and $3,500 is too high to make any sort of gain that is worth the time. You have to divide the profit price, if any, by hours worked.

I bought a 2WD 4Runner for $1700 that "had a bad engine". Spark plugs and a water pump later it ran like a champ, even better than my engine...

After registration, fees, parts, cleaning supplies, and 70 hours of work later (that includes searching, looking at vehicles, repairs, cleaning, listings, and meeting buyers) I made $12 an hour for my time. Not exactly impressive, seeing that I sold the vehicle for $4,200. I stopped flipping and instead bought junkers and parted them out and started making over $23 an hour for my time. Plus I was only risking about $700-$1000 of my own money, which I easily made back by just selling bumpers, roof rack and the engine, with anything else I sold as pure profit.

Best of luck to the OP in cleaning it up and trying to sell, but I have a feeling this will be the first and last attempt.
