Just bought an 04 4Runner, but...

I just purchased an 04 4Runner SE V6 with 42K Miles on her, but as soon as I drove it off the lot, the VSC/VCS OFF light came on? This was not a Toyota lot, so it isn't certified. What could it be? I called the dealership today and they are going to arrange to drop off the car to a toyota dealership for repairs... Also, it has a really bad sulfur smell, is the CAT Converter TSB convered under V6, and if so, would it be covered under the 60K power drive train warranty? Any info would be helpful, my wife is upset because she feels that since the car just drove off the lot and already is in need of repairs it a bad purchase

Is it a 4WD? If so, make sure the center diff lock isn't engaged. VSC is disabled when the center diff lock is engaged.

The cat/sulfur TSB should be covered by the emissions warranty which is 8yrs/80k I believe. There's a sticky posted in one of the sub forums for the sulfur smell and the TSB is in that thread.

I'm sorry to sound like such a newbie, I'm just traded in a Camry for the 4runner, but how do I find out if the center diff is locked? And yes, it is 4WD...

A lot of us are newbies...The diff lock button is located just to the left of the steering wheel on the dash. I am a first time 4WD user myself and reading through the owners manual as well as doing some searches here on this forum, helped a lot.

These are solid vehicles, if you have to take care of one or two things (like a TSB), is not a big deal. Enjoy your new ride.

Awesome, just stopped by the dealership and the reset the zero calibration on the VSC and now the light is off:awais:

I'm going to wait a week and have them do the Sulfur Smell TSB, if it applies to 04 v6's 4runner... It's bad!!
