Just bought my first 4runner... 2008... got a tough question

i just purchased a 2008 sw5. it had low mileage and is in great shape. One thing that was a buying point was that the console had the headphone jack so that my wife can hook her phone or mp3 player up to listen to her playlists. However, this beast of a machine has a nav system installed by toyota (Elcipse AVN62d). This is one of those systems that is set up for ipods on the nav system itself, however i assumed that the headphone jack in the console would still work. For example, on my 2008 altima, i have to click my stereo over to auxillary before i can use my phone to listen to music. The nav system is a touch screen stereo too, however i cannot find a way to listen to my phone. Has the installation by toyota of this nav system bypassed the headphone jack that i need? Dont get me wrong, i love the nav system, but would love to be able to fix that for my wife.

Don't know much about the nav system you have, but if there's a jack, I'm sure it works, just don't know what setting to be on.
Another option if you do not have an aux jack, is to buy a wireless bluetooth transmitter. Then you can stream bluetooth from your phone through the tuner. Hope you get it figured out!

I do have a bluetooth with it that came preinstalled, however it will not stream mp3s. the company said that it does not stream mp3s. i would like to think that the dealership would do things correctly and leave this part working. i am hoping that if and when i take this to the dealership to install my spoiler, they will not charge me for this.... since they installed it. i could imagine if joe smoe installed it they would bypass things thinking they will not use the headphone jack again, but i hope i am not assuming a whole lot.

I guess i could also install some RCA cables on the back of the deck itself, but to me i would sortof expect the dealership to fix this for me with no charge.

Since that's an aftermarket eclipse unit the aux input won't work. I had the same issue with my eclipse nav setup.

I read this post and wondered if I had written it three months ago when I was in the same situation. That ECLIPSE unit has no AUX port. I am replacing mine in a few weeks. I wondered if the aux port in the car could be wired to the VTR input of the ECLIPSE, but I never figured that out.

I called the eclipse folks and they told me that i could get rca cables and take the unit out, plug The RCA cables in and adapt the 3.5 jack to that and go through the vtr program....They said that it will pick it up just fine, however the ipod touch screen will grey out when i do this.... but for me, thats not a big deal because i use my htc evo 4g as my music sourse. They gave me the name of a company to call unitedradio to get the part. They also mentioned that i could do the work myself if i could get the dash apart. Its as easy as unplugging and plugging back in. So i think im gonna give it a go.

If you could, let us now how it works out. I've been wondering how I could get the aux to work through my Eclipse and what the vtr was for. Pretty easy to get the unit out and back in. Lots of posts that helped me install mine.

That should work, I've done that with a different unit in the past. Also, the cable you need should be available locally, I know radioshack has them.
