Hi everyone, New guy here. I have been shopping for a 3rd gen t4r for months now, never finding exactly what i wanted. Im just to picky i guess. I was originally shopping for a 4th gen but.... seeing some of the 3rd gens on this sight steered me toward a 3rd. You guys have some great looking rigs. I was inspired. Unfortunately i doubt i'll be able to mod mine nearly as much as some of you guys, I hope to make some nice improvements. Im a single dad of 2 and I own a 200 yr old house so i'll give you one guess where all my spare cash goes. Anyway, enough talk, 1st few pictures. 01 sr5, 120k, super clean, needs nothing, timing belt and pump already done. Got it for $7800, Think i did alright? . These were taken by the previous owner before i bought it, haven't even been able to wash it yet.....its killin me.

she looks turbo clean! can't wait to see what you have planned for her, but first things first; mini-tune up- oil change, trans/tcase/diff fluids, plugs (maybe) PCV, air filter, fuel filter....THEN clay bar that gorgeouss black paint and let her shine in some new pics!!

Very clean! Good purchase...tell us more about your 200 year old house :o

Thanks for the warm welcome. more about the house you say? well, I averaged the numbers. Half of the house was built more than 200 years ago, and half was built in 1880. Its in a constant state of repair which i hope my 4runner is not. I have done all the work myself. yet to hire anyone. Its coming along .......slowly.

It's a Toyota, maintenance is optional :bigok:

Larger pics yes?

no e-locker offered in 01

that brings my 1st question, I know i have a rear diff lock but what is the difference between an e-locker and a rear diff lock?

2nd question- I washed the truck today and now the rear window does not work. worked yesterday. I checked fuses, nothing. Any thoughts as to what i should check 1st. tomorrow i'll take switch out and test, then move on to the motor in the door unless you guys have any insight.

oh, and you can click on images and go to my photobucket site and enlarge them if you must. haven't quite figured out how to post full size images. sorry. funny actually, I build computers all the time, just have no idea how to actually use them, =/

scratch 2nd question, its working again......must have been me.

rear diff lock/e-locker are the same thing. what it does is lock the two rear wheels together so they move at the same speed regardless of what wheel has traction.

you don't have a rear diff lock or an e-locker.

what you do have is the center diff lock which is a similar concept. with the truck in 4wd without the center lock, it will drive as a full-time all wheel drive car/truck would. with the center locked, it turns the all wheel drive into true 4 wheel drive. only lock the center diff on loose terrain to allow wheel slip.

ah ha! thanks for the info, all makes sense now.

couple more pics, now in my yard and after a bath. I touched up the front grill on the black areas that had chips, used the textured bed liner paint. thought it worked well and probably is more resilient to kicked up rocks. Today i'm going to wire in a couple of AUX in jacks, one in the front, one in the back. Have wire already coming out of stereo to jack into an ipod. I don't like the wire, going to make a female jack on front and rear of center console. I love this truck! Is there a 12 step program for this?

Congrats

Congrats on your new purchase. You are going to love the T4R.

I've had five of them over the years and they are definitely well built vehicles.

I currently have a 2002 that was a one owner (and very well loved) Maryland car. I bought it at a dealer here in Denver that specializes in late model 4Runners and Pathfinders.

It had 70K miles on it when I bought it and still smells new. I called the original owner from his name on the title and he confirmed they bought the car new and it was his wife's car. They had twins and reluctantly traded it in on a Honda Passport because they needed more room than the 4Runner could provide for their 3 kids.

I just hit 93K miles on it and just replaced the t-belt, idler pulleys, water pump, alternator etc... I decided when I bought it that I would own this one until the wheels fall off so I've spared no expense on it.

If you love your 4Runner and treat it well, it will return the favor in spades. At 93K miles my 3400 only burns about a cup of oil every 4K miles - you can't ask for much more than that. I've serviced the oil religiously every 3.5-4K miles and she has only had Mobil1 5W30 and Pure1 oil filters. Probably overkill on the frequency but I don't put that many miles on it so I play it safe.

If your power antennae goes out and you don't want to replace it with a whip, buy the genuine Toyota part. The aftermarket power antennae's suck. Don't ask how I know.

Oil changes can be a pain UNLESS you know the trick, and there is a trick.

When you change the oil, turn the front wheels all the way to the left. There is a flexible rubber inspection cover inside the drivers side fender well that allows direct access to the filter. Get a filter wrench that allows a socket wrench to be attached with an extension and it's a breeze.

Have fun with her! They are excellent vehicles.

Good catch. I will be getting my 01 at the end of the month. But when looking at your pictures, the 01 I am getting has a hood scoop.??? can anybody chime in as why some do and some do not have them. :offtopic:

From 99 to 02, there is a SPORT model. In 99 it was also called the Highlander package. Not to be confused with the new grocery getter Highlander now on sale.

The Sport had different trim, seat colors, and most notably the hood scoop :) among other stuff I am sure a Sport owner will let us know about.

I want one !
