just bought a set of 4 new 5100 blistein shocks:D They are ride height adjustable, how high can/should i set them?
id like to put them all the way up but would that hurt anything?
also im looking for some FJ coils too idk if that would help the answer to this question or not, but yea im going to install all of them at the same time!

unless you install rear lift you won't want to go more than .85", the second setting. You can lift all the way but then your front will be much higher than the rear.

edit- like black 120 said, there are a ton of threads that address the shocks.. Namely the 4th gen suspension faq sticky
 
Rear Bilstein 5100s are not adjustable, but the fronts are. Therefore if you set the fronts to the highest setting without lifting the rear, you might end up a little bit nose-high.

If you set the fronts to the highest setting and add a 2" spacer in the rear (or 2" lift coils), then you will probably get a nice stance with a slight rake and your running boards will remain level.
 
if i do that, could i just get the 2 inch spacers with the 5100 blisteins and the fj oem coils, and not have to buy anything special but the spacers?
i have never seen or had any experience with spacers! sorry about the noob questions :(
and if i were to get some spacers what brand should i look for and whats a good price for some?

I believe you want spacers OR FJ coils but not both. Go with the coils.
 
My Bilsteins (all 4) are in Route to my house as i type this,

gonna go with .85 up front and the stock springs all around, which should have the rake reduced from 2" to 1", i still want a slight rake so that when bogged down with passengers/gear or towing i don't have a reverse rake

took measurements last night of before install

2005 V8

Front: 19" from center of hub to bottom of wheel well
Rear: 21" from center of hub to bottom of wheel well
 
I put the Bilstein 5100's all the way around. I set the front 5100's to stock setting, added 1.5" rear spacer, 1" front spacer. I have stock coils. That resulted in a nice lift look and I wanted to keep a little rake to the front. I just put the front 5100's on last night and having LTX/MS2 265/65/R17's put on as we speak. I think I'll be happy with this set up for awhile. I really don't do any off roading, just camping with a small pop-up camper (1500lb). I just pulled my camper for the 1st time this week. The V-6 and lift kit pulls everything nicely. I did have to get a 5 1/4" drop bar. New brake controller was easy to install and works great. Prodigy brand

Why only the .85" setting? I thought most were using the 1.75" setting and preferring that. I ask because I am likely doing that later this year.

I think the 1.75 is to level it. I'm putting mine on at 1.75 with FJ coils all around. Hopefully I'm not nose-high. I might keep the fronts at .85 in the front for now, because I have to trailer my mom's 64' Fairlane, and that is a heavyyyyy car! I don't wanna have my front end floating.

Good call on the Bilsteins though, zu13!
 
yea im pretty sure i will set mine to 1.75 and not have to worry about a reverse rake because of the coils. BTW how much will the new shocks and the coils lift the back if any? I also have a brush guard, V8, and roof rack is why i am not worried about any reverse rake! haha

Bilsteins won't add any height in the rear, but if you add FJ coils, you will get about .75" of lift.
