Just bought speakers, Need Advice

Just found a good deal off ebay for around $40.

Now heres where I need advice, Right now I'm limited on money. I've seperate around $150 left over to spend on stuff.

Heres my choices:

I can let my speakers sit until I have more money, and then buy a 4 channel amp and 2 more speakers for the rear.

And have the head unit power the speakers but underpower them.

I can just install them and use them with my stock head unit. And later on I'll upgrade.

Like I said before, I only can afford to sepnd like $150 more. Later on down, I'm looking to get subs as well as a new head unit.

What would you guys suggest?

The above is my advice. Those speakers are relatively sensitive...so, they are efficient enough to work well with your stock headunit.

In the future, i would consider getting the amplifier first. I would leave the headunit last because you really don't need a good headunit IF you have an amplifier. All the specs on headunits are overrated if you have a good amplifier. Remember, this is a car, not a home theater system...road/wind noise will make all the cool specs of a headunit disappear! Also, if you are sticking to these speakers, then you do NOT have to get a mega bucks amplifier either. A small 4-channel amp is more than good enough for these speakers. As for subwoofer, i am a big fan of Infinity BassLink.

BTW, can you fill out your profile? What year of 4runner do you have?? What headunit do you have (6-disc in-dash or single CD)??
 
See how they sound with the stock head unit.

The headunit is usually the first thing to upgrade. That is all I've done, and my stock speakers sound twice as good.



If you want to get an amp, you can find a good 4 channel amp for $150. Just some examples:

You can probably find better deals on the net.

However, an amp is much eaiser to setup with an aftermarket unit, using preamp-level inputs. Wiring an amp to the stock headunit is not fun.

I'd use what you have, and save up for a headunit you want. If the Sony is what you want, go for it. You'll need a harness and possibly a dash kit to install it.

And good news, just sold something on ebay for $50.

So now I have around $200 to work with.

BTW - I have a stock headunit with 1 disc changer for my 2000 t4r.

Depends on the amp size. Some can fit under the front seat. You can put them on the back of the rear seats, flat on the cargo floor, or on the side. Depends on your needs, budget, and time. There are lot of ideas in this forum.

A sub would go in the cargo area. The sub amp can be placed in the above locations, or on the sub box. Some subs have built in amps, like the BassLink Thai mentioned.

Almost found that. Pretty much has all I need.

Auxiliary input, 2 preamp outputs, remote control.

Anymore suggestions? Right now I probably can afford the head unit + front speakers installed on the head units amplifer.

I'm not familiar with the 3rd gen. But I needed both for my truck.

I think what I've decided is that I'm going to get a new head unit, get that and my new speakers installed. And then save up for maybe an amplifer in the future. And rear door speakers.

Also: one last question - On a few of these head untis they say they have an auxilary input but its in the back. How do I plug my MP3 player into that?

You will probably want an RCA-to-Mini converter... that way you just plug the rca's into the inputs in the back of the deck, and run the cable to where you can plug the mini into the headphone jack of the mp3 players... you will still have to control the mp3 player manually though ...

What kind of mp3 player do you have?

OH, and you can get that cable pretty much anywhere... radio shack, CC, BB... it is all over the place

You should only post your questions in one place.....
 
I have a Dell Jukebox. It was cheaper than an iPOD. Thanks for the help. Hopefully the cable won't be over $5. I'm going cheap on a budget haha
 
Ya, i was gonna stay away from the ipod, until I looked for accessories for other mp3 players... the iPod has pretty much every accessory i needed, including an adapter for my headunit.. so i can control my player from my deck, have my ipod charge, and it be out of sight.. people looking in my car would never know i had an ipod in there :)
