Just did the brakes on my 2005 - about wear balance

We did the back first because they're the most work and sure enough, they were toast at 140k miles (about 1mm left). Took a front wheel off and the pads looked great, at least 5+mm left of wear so we just left them. Is it normal to have such high wear on the back pads? I don't do any towing and probably about average city/hw driving. Just thought it was odd and not something I need to have looked at.

Are you certain that the front brakes are functioning properly?

It's possible that the front calipers are seized and not able to apply the proper pressure thus not wearing the front pads and the rear brakes are doing most if not all of the braking.

With 140k miles, it would seem that the fronts can't be the original pads. On my original '03 SR5, I believe by 140k I had gone through at least two sets of pads, at least one set of calipers/rotors, and was well on my way to another front set. I had also done the rears at least once by then.

I had 111k on my fronts when I did them last year. I could have made them last to 140 fairly easily I think.


to the OP, its not uncommon for a 4 wheel disc brake system to wear the rear brakes first. I see it often.
