Just drove my first 4Runner home.

Picked up a 2002 Sport today. The 300 mile trip home was comfortable. Good power, smooth shifting, pretty quiet. Anyway, I searched the forums but didn't find what I am looking for. There's something missing from the undercarriage on the front. I can see that something was there but have no idea what. Skid plate maybe? If so, any idea where I can find an OEM replacement?

yeah most likely the factory skid plate. just google it and look. does it go in between the front wheels under the front bumper?

if so thats the skid plate.

you can get one of a wrecked 4runner.
or if you plan on off roading much you can buy and aftermarket one for some serious protection. just google it again.

I'd check the junk yards. These are old enough that they are getting hard to find, but if you can find a yard with a 4Runner, you could probably get that skid plate for $50 or so (at least around here). Actually there are two (or it is in 2 pieces).

since its an 02 it could be the small chrome skid plate that only came on that year between the bumper and the regular skid plate?

for all we know it could be your front diff thats missing haha some pictures would help

Does yours have the small, silver/stainless steel skid sitting directly underneath the bumber such as pictured in the above 2002 Sport?

If not, then there's your missing part. If so, then pictures will help.

That's the hilander model skid plate. Good luck finding one...

I bought this OEM part PT212-35040. Skid plate for the Tacoma which looks like the same skid plate for the 2002 Sport. It was about $100. I haven't installed it yet but I do believe that I will need to make some adjustments since my 4Runner is a 2000. Here is a link on this skid plate if you are interested:

I picked up both skid plates at the local junk yard for $20. They weren't the silver one though.

def don't need that highlander skid...
does absolutely nothing except protrude rudely and is in the best spot to get bent up...
