Just figured out why one of my 4runners have destroyed clear coat

I just finished using carpro descale to strip, the last soap bare slate clay mitt and turtlewax hybrid products soap and ceramic spray on my 2018 silver. It looks absolutely fabulous.

My 2019 has destroyed clear coat on the roof. We have two outside cats that have laid on her nautical blue limited roof since new. Basically, they destroyed it. I have no other clear coat issues. She cares about the cats more than her vehicle.

I was going to get it repainted but it doesn't matter. They will just mess it up again.

Is there a device I can out in my 4runner to stop them from getting on mine? I searched the net but something known would be nice.

Seems perhaps "she" loves the cats. If you reciprocate affection to the cats -as apparently "she" does, they will start responding to your dislike for their roof sitting habit.
If your/her cats are older it could be sun warmth attracts them. Or perhaps it is the commanding view?
Our few cats over the decades always responded to my stern voice saying "NO" and a hand clap.
So you can minimize their roof sitting by continuous training them. After a while they will move off roof when they sight you!
Look to see if you can fabricate an alternate location for their sunbathing and viewing?
We lost our cats to predator hawks and coyotes and presently without.

I wish it was that easy. Every vehicle she drives has been their lounge. Trust me. I tried. She literally doesn't care about the damage. They are feral cats and have been here for years. They just like her vehicle. I have recently seen a couple of coyotes walk by but I have motion lights out front and they ran. These cats are big, over 12 pounds. Unsure if a hawk can pick them up. We have several in our backyard, too.

I found it. That is a great idea but it would need some stripping first. It's really messed up. That would be the cheapest I think.

Definitely looking into the ppf. If the original nautical blue is a problem maybe cream white or something.

are they scratches down to the paint? Or just the clear? you could carefully try to polish that clear so the scratches are less noticeable. I'd imagine it would be very expensive to strip the clear then re clear it. you'd probably have to repaint but I'm not sure. PPF is the best option. given the 4runner roof is basically flat, you can DIY this. you just need to cut a big rectangle or a couple rectangles. there's no real contours you have to fight with.

Oh, the clear is gone on probably 70% of the roof.

I'd just do a vinyl wrap in a color of your choice. Hard to make them do something they like when you aren't around. On the bright side, I don't think you have issues with rodents. This isn't a the worst problem to have tbh.

Had similar issue with birds hanging out on the roof of vehicle, pooping & scratching paint. Bought a bag of hard plastic baby snakes and put a few on roof...issue gone. Of course, gotta remember to remove them before driving.

I am going to have to try this for the birds at my house.
